REINFORCEMENT FOR GARMENT-FORMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
r T Application filed February 20, 1911. Serial No. 609,586.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EMIL T. PALMEN- BERG and FREDERICK WV. KRnUsoI-r, both citizens of the United States, and residents, respectively, of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, and Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Reinforcement for Garment-Forms, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to garment forms such as shown and described in the application for Letters Patent of the United States, No. 739,212, granted to William F. Palmenberg on September 15, 1903.
The object of the invention is to rovide a new and improved reinforcement for garment forms arranged to prevent cutting into the cloth covering of the form by the shears of the fitter, at the same time permitting the insertion of pins or similar fastening devices, generally used for holding the garment temporarily in place on the form during the fitting process. For the purpose mentioned use is made of perforate reinforcements, attached to the garment at the shoulders, waist or other part, to prevent the fitter from cutting into the cloth covering of the form, at the same time providing openings for the passage of the pins or other fastening devices employed for holding the garment or part thereof temporarily in position on the form.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanyingdrawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a garment form provided with reinforcements at the waist and shoulders; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 22 of Fig. l.
The body A of the garment form is preferably made hollow and of a suitable material such as papier mach, and the body conforms in its contour to the garment to be fitted thereon. The body A shown in Fig. 1 consists of a neck portion A, a chest portion A a waist portion A and a hip portion A and the said body A is provided with a covering B of a suitable fabric material, the shoulders at the chest portion A being provided with armhole portions C,
and the neck portion A being provided with a metallic cap D. The body A at the waist portion A is provided with a reinforcement in the form of a metallic perforate belt E overlying the covering B and encircling the waist. The belt E is preferably of sheet metal and shaped to fit the waist both in an upward and downward direction from the waist line, which latter is indicated by a narrow strip or band of metal forming part of the belt E at the middle thereof, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 2. Now when the garment F to be fitted is placed in position on the form it can be readily fastened in place at the waist portion A by pins F inserted through the garment F, and the perforations in the belt E, to pass finally through the covering B into the solid material of the body A, as indicated in Fig. 2. Now it is evident that by protecting the waist portion A by the use of the metallic belt E, the fitter cannot cut into the covering B as the latter is protected by the overlying belt E, and the perforations of the latter permit ready insertion of the pins F or other fastening devices for holding the garment F temporarily in position on the form. Other parts of the form may likewise be protected, for instance, as shown in Fig. 1, the shoulders are provided with reinforcements G in the form of perforate thin metal pieces bent to conform to the shape of the shoulders but overlying the covering B so as to prevent the fitter from cutting into the covering at this point during the process of fitting the garment on the form.
Although we have shown the waist and shoulders to be protected, it is evident that other parts of the form requiring such protection can be provided with reinforcements.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A garment form, comprising'a body provided with a covering of fabric material, and reinforcements of thin sheet metal overlying the said covering and provided with small apertures.
2. A garment form comprising a body provided with a covering, and a metal belt fitting over the covering at the waist of the form, the said belt being shaped to fit the waist both in an upward and downward direction from the waist line and having at its 41:. A garment form comprising a body, a 5 covering of fabric material on the body, a belt formed of thin sheet metal overlying j the covering and encircling the Waist, and
thin metal pieces bent to conform to the shape of the top of the shoulders, the said pieces extending over the shoulders to the front and back of the form and overlying the said covering, the said belt and the said shoulder pieces being apertured for the passage of pins to hold the garment temporarily in position on the form.
In testimony whereof We have signed our names to this specification in the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
