Letters Patent No. 100,364, dated March 1, 1870.
IMPROVE!) SNAP-890K AND BUCKLE.
'rhs schedule mensa c@ m time Lamu Paten: and making part 'of :ne me To all u'hom 'it 'may conce-rn Be it known that we, J ons C. BRADY and J Amts H. BRADY, of Corsica. Borough, in the county of Jeffersou, and State ofdennsylvana, have invented certain Improvements in Suap-Hooks for Harness, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accouxpanying drawings.
Our invention relates to snap-hooks for use ou harness; and
The invention consists in the novel construction of the device whereby it is made to answer the purposes.
,of asnap-hook and a buckle combined, as heremift-er more fully explained.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section.
Figure 2, a front or plan View,
Various plans have been devisedfor ,wustl-noting snap-hooks, but generally they are made with a. ringor loop at their rear end, by which to secure, theln tothe line or other strap to which they are' to be attached.
In constructing our improved device we make it of two parts, one part A consisting of a dat body, having one end turned up so as to form a. hook, as shown clearly in fig. I.
The other part consists of a slide, B, which fits and slides in a dovetailed groove in the face of the part A, in such a manner that when it is shoved forward its iront end shall fit against the end of the hook, as represented in lig. 1, the ends being beveled where they meet, as shown in figs. 1 and 2, the latter representing the slide shoved back and the hook opened.
Thebe is a. recess formed partly in each of the adjoiningr faces of A and B, in which is placed a. spiral, spring, L, as shown in iig. 1, this spring serving to hold the slide forward and keep the hook closed.
1u order to open it when necessary there is a projection, I, formed on the slide I, by which it can be easily drawn or shoved back.
From the under face of the part A projects a stud' or pin, E, to serve as a tongue to hold the strap F, and iu front of this piu E a loop, O, is formed, and at the rear end another loop, D, is made, these two loops'. thus serving to hold the strap in place and prevent. it
from being accidentally detached from the pin E, these loops and piu thus serving as a. buckle by which the hook can be securely attached to a. strap and can be adj usted thereon as occasion may require.
By this plan of constructing the device, we produce tionary loops C and D and tongue or catch F, arranged to form a buckle, the whole being constructed as here in shown and described. l

JAMES H. BRADY.
