To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WVILLIAM CONNOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Awnings, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in awnings, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character which may be adjusted so as to fit different size windows so that there is but one frame and one set of attaching members required for a number of different sized windows.

Another object of my invention is to provide an awning which may be readily and easily adjusted so that the awning may be folded so as to rest against the frame, thus closing the awning against the window as is usually done when the occupants are leaving for any length of time.

With these ends in view, this invention consists in the deta ls of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how'to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved awning showing it attached to a window. Fig. 5, a plan view of the socket for holding the ends of the frame, and Fig. 6, a lan view of the spring catch which holds the upper portion of the frame to the window In carrying out my invention as here embodied, A and B represent the two parts of the frame, the end of each being slidably secured to the upper end of the opposite portion of the frame by the clips C, the lower ends of the frame members rest in the sockets D, which are secured to the window frame by means of the screws E. in proximity to the top of the window are the spring clips F, between the spring arms G of which are inserted the upper portion of the frame members A and B.

To the frame members A and B are slidably secured the sliding brackets H, which are held in any adjusted position to the frame by the set screws I, and to these brackets are pivoted the swinging frame J, at K so as to allow the awning to be brought u In Fig. 4 I have shown the awning in a closed position, or the position in which awnings are usually placed when the occupants of the house are away for a considerable length of time, and to do this the set screws I are loosened and the sliding brackets moved upward on the frame until the outer end of the swinging frame J rests against the frame members or the window.

In practice the attaching members D and F are placed on the window frame in alinement with one another, the frame members A and B are then moved toward or away from one another until their ends will rest within the sockets D, at which time the frame members A and B may be brought into engagement with the spring clips O and F, and forced between the spring arms G, at which time the awning frame will be in position for the reception of the awning which will have been made the correct size for the window. Said awning is then secured to the frame members A and B and the swinging frame J. Then by moving the sliding members H vertically until the side rods of the swinging frame run parallel with the bottom edge of the awning, said sliding members and the swinging frame will be brought to their correct positions, at which time the set screws I may be threaded into the sliding members until their ends jamb the frame members A and B.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, is
