This invention relates to i1npro.'euients in plou's, especially with reference to the pio vision ot iniproved devices ilor securing the plow share to the .niold board and land side without the necessity ot employing bolts or other like devices, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement oit devices hereiinrtter described a nd claimed.
In the accompanying drawings-Figi1re l. is a side elevation partly in section ot a plow constructed in accordance with in v inven tion. Fig. 2 is a plan ot the saine. AFig. f3 is an inverted plan ot the saine.` Fig. Vlis partly a rear elevation and pai-tttr transverse sectional View on the plano indicated by the line a--o of Fig.
In accordance with my invention l provide a bracket plate 1, which is sul'istantially triangular in plan, and is provided with a straight longitudinal side 2. and an oblique trout side 3. Front the side 2 depends a vertical flange 4t to the outer side oit' which the rear portion otE the land side plate 5 is secured as by means ot bolts G. At the trout end of the bracket plate in the angle be tween the sides 2 and is a. downwardl'tr extending block 7 which. is tornied integral with the bracket plate, and which also bears against the land side plate at and near the front end thereof. The said block is provided with a longitudinal opening S which extends from its .front end to its rear end, lies in a vertical plane, and ot oblong reetangular form in cross section. Also torined integral with the bracket plate on the lower side thereof, and at its oblique 'trent edge B, is a flange t) which is provided near its outer end and .near its center with rearwardl)7 exi tending bosses .10, 1t which are respectively provided with longitudinal openings 1Q. A13 which are rectangular in form cross sectionally. rlhe lower portion ot the inold board tit is secured on t-he oblique front: edge o't the bracket plate l, by means o't' suitable bolts 15. A. portion of the `tlange 9 extends below the mold board as do also the bosses 10, 11.
The detachable share 16 of the plow cornprises a point or plate i7 and a land side portion '18. The land side portion is provided at its rear end with an inwardly extending arni Q0 which operates and is fitted in the longitudinal opening S ot the block T. t pair ot guiding arnis and securing arins Qt, respectively operate in the guide openings ot the lugs .'10` Alll and have their ends downturned` bearing against the rear side. ot and secured to the plate or point 't7 ot' the detachable share. lolts Q3 secure the trout ends ot these arms to the said plate or point` and also secure a cross bar Q-/t which connccts the tront ends ot the said arnis together. '.lhe said cross bar is provided on its upper side near its center with a notch The arni Q0 ot the. land side portion 1S o't` the detachable share. is provided near its trout end with a lug itt.
'lbe standard portion 2T ot the bcani 28 is bolted to the inner side ot the land side plate as at. 29, at a. point between the flange. t and the block T, the bracket plate being recessed as at 50 to clear the standard. Tn the rear portion ot the bracket, plate is a vertical longitudinal slot Si. the sides of which are torlned by a pair ot lugs which project upwardly t'roin the bracket plate l. and a pair of guide flanges 33 which project: downwardlyv 'troni the. bracket plate. A. lotfking lever fit operates in the slot 31. and is n'iounted on a pivot: bolt 35 which connects the lugs i352. A locking arin 3G is secured to the. rear side ot the niold board as at 3T and projects rearwardly there'troni, and is provided on one side with a series ot locking teeth 3S. The locking' lever 3ft 1na v be engaged by any one ot the locking teeth ot the said arin, to lock the lever atI airv desired position. The locking lever is nlade ot suitable spring Inetal preferably1 steel, and b v its own resilience bears against the toothed side, o't the locking arni. and is hence norniall'v in engagement therewith, and reniains in any adjusted position.
The arias Q0. 21. and 2Q b V their sliding engagement with the guide openings ot the ln'acketl plate l. serve to connect the share to the bracket plate tor longitlulinal niove nient, and tor detachment` and permit the share to be moved torwardlv 'troni or drawn rearuuirdly back against the t'ront edge ot the bracket plate, and into eoincitlence with the. lower edge of the inold board. rlhe cross ba r Q11- and the lug itt otj the detachable share torni keepers which may be detachabl;7
ti i) engaged by the front ends of a pair of link rods 39, 40 respectively. The said link rods o-perate in guides 4l., 42 on the under side of the bracket plate near the front end thereof, and their rear ends are pivotally connected as at 43 to the lower end of the lock lever. By moving the upper end of the locking lever rearwardly so as to cause its lower end to move forwardly, the link rods by their engagement with the keepers of the detachable share move the share forwardly a suiiicient distance to enable the arms 20, 2l and 22 of the detachable share to become entirely disconnected from the bracket plate, and the keepers of the detachable share may be then disconnected readily from the hook shaped front ends of the said link rods, and hence the share may be entirely disconn nected from the plow and another substituted in its stead. After the share has by means of its keepers been connected to the front ends of the link rods, and its arms 20, 2l 22 have been engaged with the appropriate guide openings, of the bracket plate, the share may be then moved rearwardly, and caused to bear firmly against the front edge of the bracketplate so as to engage the upper side of its plate with the lower edge of the mold board and engage the rear end of its land side portion with the front end of the land side plate by appropriately operating the locking lever. The said loc-king lever as hereinbefore indicated, springs into engagement with one of the teeth of the locking arm, and hence serves in connection with the link rods, and the coacting devices hereinbeforc described to securely and yet detachably fasten the share to the plow.
It will be understood from the foregoing that my improved plow permits the share to be attached to the mold board and land side and removed therefrom at will without the necessity of employing bolts or other like devices, and it will also be understood that the share of my improved plow may be readily detached therefrom by merely operating the locking lever, and disconnecting the keepers of the share from the link rods.
lt will be understood that my bracket plate forms the connecting element between the mold board and land side plate and in connection with the arms of the share also forms the connection between the mold board, the land side plate and the detachable share.
