MATERNITY-SKIRT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ROSE M. Drn'rz, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at N. S. Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Maternity-Skirts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a maternity skirt, and has for its object to providea skirt for such purpose, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, whereby the waist, as well as that portion of the skirt, which fits around the abdomen can be increased in size, as occasion so requires.

A further object of the invention is to provide a maternity skirt, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, whereby it can be readily adjustable as to size, when occasion so re quires, thereby overcoming any unsightly appearance by the wearer of the skirt.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a maternity skirt, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, efficient in its use, conveniently adjusted to increase the size thereof, and inexpensive to manufacture.

lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construct-ion, combination, and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications can be resorted to, which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.

In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawing, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the upper portion of a maternity skirt, in accordance with this invention, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view illustrating portions of the skirt disassembled.

Referring to the drawings in detail, each of the sides of the skirt are formed of three sect-ions, 1, 2, and 8. The section 1 is provided on its outer face with two groups of rows of eyes 4, 5, the section 2 with a group of hooks 6 on its inner face, and a group of rows of eyes 7 on its outer face. The section 2 overlaps the section 1 at the upper Specification of Letters Patent.

portion thereof, and the upper portion of the section 2 is adjustably connected with the upper portion of the section 1 by the engagement of the hooks 6 with the eyes 5. The sections 1 and 2 are pivotally connected to the upper end of the section. 8 by a snap fastener of known construction, as at 8 or by any other suitable means. Below the pivot 8 the sections 1 and 2 are out-away so as to expose the section 3, the latter being plaited.

The back of the skirt is indicated by the reference character 9 and is provided on its inner face at each side with a group of hooks 10, which are adapted to be adjustably connected with the groups of eyes L of the section 1.

The reference character 11 indicates the front section of the skirt, and which has its inner face at each side provided with a group of hooks 12 adapted to adjustably engage with the groups of eyes 7 of the section 2, whereby the front will be secured in position.

Each of the side sections 2 at its top is provided with a waist band section 13, formed with a series of eyes 14, with which is adapted to adjustably engage the button 15 of the projecting end 16 of the waist band section 17 arranged at the top of the front 11. The back section 9 at its top is formed with a waist band section 18 having an extension 19 provided with a button 20, which is also adapted to adjustably engage with the eyes 14. The waist band section 17 projects at each end from the front section 11 and each of its ends is formed with a button 15 and the waist band section 18 projects at each end from the back section 9 and each of the projecting ends is provided with a button 20.

From the foregoing construction and arrangement of parts, it is evident that the upper portion of the skirt can be conveniently increased in size, when occasion so requires, so as to prevent the wearer of the skirt from having an unsightly appearance.

The back section 9 is detachably connected to the side sections 1 by a separable fastener or button ofknown construction, as at 21, and the front section 11 is detachably connected to the side section 2 by a separable fastener or button of known construction, as at 22. The fasteners 21 and 22 being such as to prevent the front and back section separating from the side sections when the upper portion of the skirt is adjusted,

By setting up the skirt in a. manner as stated, the Waist band can be increased in size, as Well as the body portion of the skirt, to prevent any possibility of binding.

What I claim, is:

A skirt comprising a pair of sides each formed of three sections pivotally connected together and two of which overlap the other, means for connecting the upper portion of the overlapping sections together, a front section, a back section, means for adjustably connecting the front section to an overlapping section of both sides, means for adjustably connecting the back section to an overlapping section of both sides, and means to constitute an adjustable Waist-band carried by the sides and front andl back sections.
