Description
本發明係有關於數種利於製造隱形眼鏡的模具。特別是,本發明的模具可用來製造帶有圓邊(rounded edge)的鏡片。
利於製造隱形眼鏡的方法及模具已為眾所周知。例如,美國專利第5,540,410號(全部內容併入本文作為參考資料)揭示數種用於隱形眼鏡之製造的模具及用途。已知鏡片模具是用來製造有圓邊的鏡片。最好有該等圓邊,因為彼等可避免鏡片邊緣陷入鏡片穿戴者的結膜(conjunctival membrane)。不過,習知鏡片模具的缺點為難以適當地控制邊緣的高度。另外,在習知模具中製造有圓邊的鏡片會導致模具的過剩單體的流動中斷。這不只導致單體會包圍形成於模具的鏡片,而且在固化後單體的份量會較多而難以移除。
本發明係提供利於製造隱形眼鏡的模具、製作該等模具的方法、以及由該等模具造成有圓邊的鏡片。本發明的模具在該等半模中之一個上有形式為舌突(tab)的定中心及分隔特徵,該特徵能使兩個半模相互定中心且允許模具的過剩單體自由流動。另外,該分隔特徵有助
於半模中之一個相對於另一半模的高度控制。
在一具體實施例中,本發明提供一種用於製造隱形眼鏡的模具,其係包含,實質上由下列物件組成,以及由下列物件組成:前半模與後半模,其中:該前半模包含,實質上由下列物件組成,以及由下列物件組成:一有一弧形中間部份的第一物件,其係具有凹面、凸面及在該弧形中間部份之凹面周圍的第一圓形周邊,該凹面的中間部份適合使一隱形眼鏡的前曲面有一曲率;該第一物件也有環繞該凹面的對稱軸和在比該凹面軸低約5至約15度之平面中與該圓形邊緣連續且從該圓形邊緣向下延伸的內表面,由該內表面向上延伸且向外變尖的牆體,以及包圍及整合於該向外變尖牆體且在該凹面軸之垂直平面中由該凹面及該凸面徑向向外延伸的環狀凸緣;該後半模包含,實質上由下列物件組成,以及由下列物件組成:一有一弧形中間部份的第二物件,其係具有凹面、凸面及在該弧形中間部份之凸面周圍的第二圓形周邊,該凸面的中間部份適合使一隱形眼鏡的後曲面有一曲率;以及,該第二物件也有環繞該凸面的對稱軸,多個在該凸面上隔開的舌突,該等舌突各包含一由該凸面之周邊向外延伸的牆體,以及在該向外延伸牆體之最裡面部份處與它連續且從它向上延伸並在該凸面之最外面部份處與該凸面連續的向上延伸牆體,以及包
圍及整合於該凹面及該凸面且在該凸面軸之垂直平面中由該凹面及該凸面向外徑向延伸的環狀凸緣。
請參考附圖,第1圖及第2圖係分別圖示本發明模具的展開側面正視圖與側視圖。該模具由兩個互補半模構成:前半模102與後半模103。由第1圖可見,在半模103的凸面上,於數個隔開的位置有舌突116。必須提供數目足夠的舌突以使得該等半模有想要的共軸性(centration)及高度控制。後半模103設有至少3個舌突為較佳。然而,可加上約達36個舌突。本發明的模具均利於藉由可聚合組合物的聚合來製成隱形眼鏡。使用本發明模具製成的隱形眼鏡為藉由水化或使鏡片膨脹(用本技藝任一習知方法)即可戴上的未水化鏡片(unhydrated lens)。
前半模102與後半模103可由任何合適的熱塑聚合物形成,較佳的熱塑聚合物為對於紫外光有充分透明度能讓它透射以促進隱形眼鏡材料(軟性隱形眼鏡材料為較佳)的聚合。另外,最好所用的材料是可以相對低的溫度模造成有光學品質的表面,有優異的流動特性,以及在模製期間保持非晶態。用於形成本發明半模的較佳材料為聚烯烴,包含(但不受限於):聚苯乙烯、聚丙烯、以及彼等之組合。形成各個半模的材料可與形成另一半模的相同或不同。可用任何習知方法來製成該等半模,但是在美國專利第5,540,410號中提及的為較佳。在本發明的模具中,用於形成後半模103的材料比形成
前半模102的硬些或較難壓縮為更佳。
第3圖為第2圖模具沿著I-I且穿過舌突116中之一個繪出的橫截面側視圖。第3a圖為部份第3圖模具的放大橫截面圖。第3a圖中的點線14顯示表面109對於在沒有舌突116之處的凸緣107(請參照第3圖)如何向上延伸。請參考第3圖及第3a圖,在前半模102中,凸出的表面105係與凹入的表面104隔開呈大體平行而且有一實質上呈單面的環狀凸緣106在與凹入的表面104之對稱軸垂直的平面中由表面104及表面105向外徑向延伸。同樣,後半模103有彼此隔開的表面109與表面110而且有一實質上呈單面的環狀凸緣107在與凸出的表面109之對稱軸垂直的平面中由表面109及表面110向外徑向延伸。前半模凹入的表面104具有待鑄造於該模具之未膨脹鏡片之前曲面的尺寸而且呈充分平滑使得所形成的隱形眼鏡表面有光學可接受的品質。
後半模103界定一弧形中間部份,其係具有光學品質的凸出的表面109和大體平行的凹入的表面110。凸出的表面109具有待鑄造鏡片之未膨脹背曲面的尺寸而且呈充分平滑使得所形成的鏡片表面有光學可接受的品質。前半模102的凸出的表面105與後半模103的凹入的表面110不需要有適合形成光學品質表面的表面。
前半模102界定一具有光學品質凹入的表面104的弧形中間部份。凹入的表面104在四周有定義明確的圓形周邊邊緣111。周邊邊緣111結合後半模凸面上的邊
緣120形成一條用於後續模造隱形眼鏡、有明確定義及均勻的塑性半徑模縫線(plastic radius parting line)。邊緣111通常有在約3至45微米之間的曲率,在約5至約30微米之間為較佳,而且界定該邊緣的表面可形成75至90度的角度。與邊緣111連續且由邊緣111徑向向外延伸至錐形牆體113的是向下傾斜的內表面112。內表面112是在與凹入的表面104對稱軸之垂直平面呈約5至約15度角的平面中。
舌突116各由從圓形邊緣120徑向向外延伸的牆體114構成。牆體114是在與凸出的表面109對稱軸之垂直平面呈約上下5度角的平面中。舌突116進一步由向上延伸的牆體115構成,該牆體115在最裡面部份處與牆體114連續且從牆體114向上延伸,而且在最外面部份處與凸出的表面109連續。將各個舌突116組態成使得形成於內表面112、牆體114之間的間隙是在約0.005至約0.025毫米之間為較佳,在約0.010至約0.017毫米之間更佳。各個舌突116的高度可在約0.3至約1毫米之間,寬度是在約0.3至約1毫米之間,而厚度是在約0.3至約1毫米之間,該厚度是以凸出的表面109為底向外測量。舌突呈圓形以形成在約0.1至約1毫米之間的“鼻部”半徑,在約0.15至約0.23毫米之間為較佳。在鏡片固化期間外加於後或前半模的壓力確保有360度的接觸而且前、後半模有最小的傾斜或非平行性。
如第3a圖所示,在鏡片材料沉積於前半模後,牆
體115與前半模牆體113會相互作用以利後半模的安置。在所有具體實施例中,前、後半模係經設計成能快速傳遞熱然而仍有足夠剛性經得起在脫模時分開半模的撬力(prying force)。本發明的模具可用於任何用來製造隱形眼鏡的方法。然而,使用在美國專利第5,540,410號提及的製造方法為較佳。一般而言,在較佳的方法中,將一定數量的可聚合組合物佈置於前半模102的凹入的表面104上,用注射法為較佳。安置凸出的表面109朝向前半模102之凹入的表面104的後半模103於可聚合組合物上。所用可聚合組合物的體積大於空腔101的體積為較佳。因此,安置後半模103於前半模102上會導致過剩材料流入在內表面112與牆體114之間產生的空間。在凸緣107、106之間的區域會提供額外的空間給過剩的鏡片材料。凸出的表面109比凹入的表面110窄些以利定中心為較佳。
在安置半模103於前半模102上後,使用約2至約5英磅的力使該等半模壓在一起為較佳。可順著以第2圖箭頭圖示的直線施加該力於凸緣107或凸緣106。可用任何方便的方法來施加該力,包含(但不受限於):使用空氣壓力、機械構件(例如,彈簧),或彼等的組合。在一具體實施例中,係使用呈扁平狀以橫放在凸緣上的沉積噴嘴或使用錐形及扁平狀之組合以部份塞入半模102或103的沉積噴嘴。在可聚合組合物的聚合期間,該力保持不變。
藉由暴露於紫外光輻射來使可聚合組合物聚合較佳。在聚合完成後,分解由前、後半模102、103形成的模具而鑄成的鏡片會經受其他的加工。

Claims (2)
- 一種用於製造隱形眼鏡的模具,其係包含一前半模與一後半模,其中:該前半模包含,實質上由下列物件組成,以及由下列物件組成:一有一弧形中間部份的第一物件,其係具有凹面、凸面及在該弧形中間部份之凹面周圍的第一圓形周邊,該凹面的中間部份適合使一隱形眼鏡的前曲面有一曲率;該第一物件也有環繞該凹面的對稱軸和在比該凹面之該對稱軸低約5至約15度之平面中與該圓形邊緣連續且從該圓形邊緣向下延伸的內表面,由該內表面向上延伸且向外變尖的牆體,以及包圍及整合於該向外變尖牆體且在該凹面之該對稱軸之垂直平面中由該凹面及該凸面徑向向外延伸的環狀凸緣;該後半模包含:一有一弧形中間部份的第二物件,其係具有凹面、凸面及在該弧形中間部份之凸面周圍的第二圓形周邊,該凸面的中間部份適合使一隱形眼鏡的後曲面有一曲率;以及,該第二物件也有環繞該凸面的對稱軸,多個在該凸面上隔開的舌突,該等舌突各包含一由該凸面之周邊向外延伸的牆體,以及在該向外延伸牆體之最裡面部份處與它連續且從它向上延伸並在該凸面之最外面部份處與該凸面連續的向上延伸牆體,以及包圍及整合於該凹面及該凸面且在該凸面之該對稱軸之垂直平面中由該凹 面及該凸面向外徑向延伸的環狀凸緣。
