Abstract
一種顯示面板驅動裝置,用以驅動顯示面板,包含驅動單元、數位電路單元及選擇單元。驅動單元包含第一通道及第二通道。第一通道包含第一放大器,第二通道包含第二放大器。數位電路單元耦接至驅動單元,用以分別輸出第一信號及第二信號至第一通道及第二通道。選擇單元耦接至驅動單元。其中,當第一信號與第二信號相同時,選擇單元選擇性地關閉第一放大器或第二放大器。
Description
本發明係關於一種顯示面板驅動裝置及其驅動方法。具體來說,特別是一種驅動IC共用放大器輸出的顯示面板驅動裝置及其驅動方法。
一般而言,薄膜電晶體液晶顯示(Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display,TFT LCD)面板或有機發光顯示(Organic Light-Emitting Display,OLED)面板的驅動電路,因為要同時驅動多條資料線(Data Line)電壓,需要內建許多類比放大器。
舉例來說,Full HD面板的資料線(Data Line)數目有1080*3=3240條,當全部出現接到驅動電路時,則需要3240個放大器同時啟動。若以低溫多晶矽(Low Temperature Poly-silicon,LTPS)面板為例,玻璃有作1-3個多工器(MUX),則驅動電路有1080個資料線(Data Line)輸出,因此,需1080個放大器同時啟動。
如上所述的面板,因為一條水平線的時間只有8.6μs,且1080個放大器要輸出3次。因此需要非常快速的放大器,輸出的時間最多僅約1/3水平線的時間。要有快速的輸出,放大器需具有快速的反應,因此就必需消耗許多DC電流。舉例來說,每顆IC的DC電流約3μA,1080個放大器就必須消耗約3uA*1080=3.24mA的DC電流。此耗電量對於面板驅動電路 來說是一個很大的問題。
有鑑於此,本發明之一實施例在於提供一種顯示面板驅動裝置。係透過驅動IC共用放大器輸出來降低驅動IC的耗電量。
顯示面板驅動裝置用以驅動顯示面板,包含驅動單元、數位電路單元及選擇單元。驅動單元包含第一通道及第二通道。第一通道包含第一放大器,第二通道包含第二放大器。數位電路單元耦接至驅動單元,用以分別輸出第一信號及第二信號至第一通道及第二通道。選擇單元耦接至驅動單元。其中,當第一信號與第二信號相同時,選擇單元選擇性地關閉第一放大器或第二放大器。
本發明之另一實施例在於提供一種顯示面板的驅動方法。係透過驅動IC共用放大器輸出來降低驅動IC的耗電量。
顯示面板的驅動方法,包含下列步驟:(S1)一數位電路單元分別輸出一第一信號及一第二信號至一第一放大器及一第二放大器;(S2)一選擇單元判斷該第一信號及該第二信號是否相同;(S3)當該第一信號及該第二信號相同時,該選擇單元選擇性地關閉該第一放大器;以及(S4)該第二放大器分別輸出驅動信號至一第一輸出墊及一第二輸出墊。
本發明之另一實施例在於提供一種顯示面板的驅動方法。係透過驅動IC共用放大器輸出來降低驅動IC的耗電量。
顯示面板的驅動方法,包含下列步驟:(A1)一數位電路單元分別輸出一第一信號、一第二信號以及一第三信號至一第一放大器、一第二放大器及一第三放大器;(A2)一選擇單元判斷該第一信號、該第二信 號及該第三信號是否相同;(A3)當該第一信號、該第二信號及該第三信號相同時,該選擇單元選擇性地關閉該第一放大器及該第二放大器;以及(A4)該第三放大器分別輸出驅動信號至一第一輸出墊、一第二輸出墊以及一第三輸出墊。
相較於先前技術,本發明之「顯示面板驅動裝置及其驅動方法」利用驅動IC共用放大器輸出的概念,藉由判斷放大器輸入/輸出是否相同進而共用一個放大器來輸出,來達到降低驅動IC耗電量的功效。

以下將以圖式配合文字敘述揭露本發明的複數個實施方式,為明確說明起見,許多實務上的細節將在以下敘述中一併說明。然而,應瞭解到,這些實務上的細節不應用以限制本發明。此外,為簡化圖式起見,一些習知的結構與元件在圖式中將以簡單示意的方式繪出。
請參閱圖1A,圖1A係為本發明之一實施例示意圖。顯示面板驅動裝置1用以驅動顯示面板D。顯示面板驅動裝置1較佳包含驅動單元11、數位電路單元14及選擇單元15。驅動單元11較佳包含第一通道12及第二通道13,本實施例中,第一通道12包含第一放大器121,第二通道13包含第二放大器131。其中,第一放大器121及第二放大器131可以是運算放大器(Operational Amplifier,OP-Amp)。數位電路單元14耦接至驅動單元11,用以分別輸出第一信號及第二信號至第一通道及第二通道,具體來說,數位電路單元14係分別輸出第一信號及第二信號至第一放大器121及第二放大器131。選擇單元15亦耦接至驅動單元11,其較佳可為開關電路,但不以此為限,用以切換第一放大器121及第二放大器131之信號輸出。
顯示面板驅動裝置1更包含耦接於選擇單元15的第一輸出墊121及第二輸出墊131,用以將信號傳遞至顯示面板D。
關於第一信號及第二信號的傳遞方式,請參閱圖1B。如圖所示,數位電路單元14分別對第一通道12內的第一放大器121以及第二通道13內的第二放大器131輸入第一信號S1及第二信號S2。其中,第一信號S1及第二信號S2係為數位信號。於本實施例中,顯示面板驅動裝置1可以藉由其內部的控制器、微處理器或其他類似的裝置,判斷第一信號S1與第二信號S2是否相同。須說明的是,此處的判斷可根據第一信號S1與第二信號S2的數位輸入碼(code)而判定,但不以此限制。
當第一信號S1與第二信號S2被判定為相同時,選擇單元15會將其中一個放大器關閉,於此實施例中,選擇單元15選擇將第一放大器121關閉。因此,原本應該經由第一放大器121輸出至第一輸出墊16的第一 信號S1,改為由第二放大器131輸出。也就是說,第一信號S1及第二信號S2皆由第二放大器131輸出。進一步而言,選擇單元15選擇由第二放大器131輸出第一信號S1至第一輸出墊16再傳遞至顯示面板;輸出第二信號S2至第二輸出墊17再傳遞至顯示面板。
據此,若以習知同樣解析度面板為例,由於本實施例中僅需啟動一個放大器,也就是1/2*1080*3μA=1.62m的DC電流,因此,可以省去一半的DC電流耗電量。
應瞭解到的是,若第一信號S1與第二信號S2不同時,則維持既有的方式輸出,亦即,第一信號S1經由第一放大器121輸出,第二信號S2經由第二放大器131輸出。
在此,需說明的是,第一信號S1及第二信號S2除了可以數位輸入碼判定外,亦有其他的判定依據。如圖1C之實施例所示,第一通道12更可包含第一數位類比轉換器DAC1、第一位準移位器LS1或第一閂鎖電路LH1。也就是說,其判定依據可以是第一數位類比轉換器DAC1的輸出值、第一位準移位器LS1的輸出值,或是第一閂鎖電路LH1的輸出值。
類似地,第二通道13可以包含第二數位類比轉換器DAC2、第二位準移位器LS2或第二閂鎖電路LH2。其判定依據可以是第二數位類比轉換器DAC2的輸出值、第二位準移位器LS2的輸出值,或是第二閂鎖電路LH2的輸出值。
本發明之另一實施例,係以三個通道為例,請參閱圖2A及圖2B。如圖所示,顯示面板驅動裝置1較佳包含驅動單元11、數位電路單元14、選擇單元15,以及耦接於選擇單元15的第一輸出墊121、第二輸出墊131 及第三輸出墊141。驅動單元11較佳包含第一通道12、第二通道13以及第三通道18。本實施例中,第一通道12包含第一放大器121,第二通道13包含第二放大器131,第三通道18包含第三放大器181。其中,第一放大器121、第二放大器131及第三放大器181可以是運算放大器(Operational Amplifier,OP-Amp)。
數位電路單元14耦接至驅動單元11,用以分別輸出第一信號、第二信號及第三信號至第一通道、第二通道及第三通道,具體來說,數位電路單元14係分別輸出第一信號至第三信號至第一放大器121至第三放大器181。選擇單元15亦耦接至驅動單元11,其較佳可為開關電路,但不以此為限,用以切換第一放大器121至第三放大器181之信號輸出。
數位電路單元14分別對第一通道12內的第一放大器121、第二通道13內的第二放大器131以及第三通道18內的第三放大器181輸入第一信號S1及、第二信號S2及第三信號S3。其中,第一信號S1至第三信號S3係為數位信號。於本實施例中,顯示面板驅動裝置1可以藉由其內部的控制器、微處理器或其他類似的裝置,判斷第一信號S1、第二信號S2與第三信號S3是否相同。同樣地,此處的判斷可根據第一信號S1至第三信號S3的數位輸入碼(code)而判定,但不以此限制。
當第一信號S1、第二信號S2與第三信號被判定為相同時,選擇單元15會將其中兩個放大器關閉,於此實施例中,選擇單元15選擇將第一放大器121及第二放大器131關閉。因此,原本應該經由第一放大器121、第二放大器131分別輸出至第一輸出墊16及第二輸出墊17的第一信號S1及第二信號S2,改為由第三放大器181輸出。也就是說,第一信號S1、第 二信號S2及第三信號S3皆由第三放大器181輸出。進一步而言,選擇單元15選擇由第三放大器181輸出第一信號S1至第一輸出墊16再傳遞至顯示面板;輸出第二信號S2至第二輸出墊17再傳遞至顯示面板;輸出第三信號S3至第三輸出墊19再傳遞至顯示面板。
據此設計,若以習知同樣解析度面板為例,由於本實施例中僅需啟動一個放大器,也就是1/3*1080*3μA=1.08m的DC電流,因此,可以節省去2/3的DC電流耗電量。
類似地,第一信號S1、第二信號S2及第三信號S3除了可以數位輸入碼判定外,如圖2C之實施例所示,第三通道18更可包含第三數位類比轉換器DAC3、第三位準移位器LS3或第三閂鎖電路LH3。也就是說,其判定依據可以是第三數位類比轉換器DAC3的輸出值、第三位準移位器LS3的輸出值,或是第三閂鎖電路LH3的輸出值。
本發明之另一實施例,請參閱圖2D。如圖所示,本實施例主要是說明三個放大器中有兩個放大器的輸入/輸出值相同時的作動方式。舉例來說,當第二信號S2與第三信號S3相同但與第一信號S1為不相同時,也就是當S1≠S2=S3時,選擇單元15會將第二放大器131或第三放大器181其中之一關閉,於此實施例中,選擇單元15選擇將第二放大器131關閉,但不以此為限。因此,原本應該經由第二放大器131輸出至第二輸出墊17的第二信號S2,改為由第三放大器181輸出。也就是說,第一信號S1仍由第一放大器121輸出,但第二信號S2及第三信號S3皆由第三放大器181輸出。
進一步而言,選擇單元15選擇由第三放大器181輸出第二信號S2及第三信號S3至第二輸出墊17及第三輸出墊19再傳遞至顯示面板;而 第一信號S1仍然由第一放大器121輸出至第一輸出墊16再傳遞至顯示面板。據此設計,可以節省1/3的DC電流耗電量。
需說明的是,熟知本技術領域之通常知識者應可透過上述實施例將其延伸應用至N個放大器之狀況。
本發明之另一實施例,係為應用於上述實施例之方法。如圖3所示,其步驟包含:(S1)一數位電路單元分別輸出一第一信號及一第二信號至一第一放大器及一第二放大器;(S2)一選擇單元判斷該第一信號及該第二信號是否相同;(S3)當該第一信號及該第二信號相同時,該選擇單元選擇性地關閉該第一放大器;以及(S4)該第二放大器分別輸出驅動信號至一第一輸出墊及一第二輸出墊。
本發明之另一方法實施例,如圖4所示,其步驟包含:(A1)一數位電路單元分別輸出一第一信號、一第二信號以及一第三信號至一第一放大器、一第二放大器及一第三放大器;(A2)一選擇單元判斷該第一信號、該第二信號及該第三信號是否相同;(A3)當該第一信號、該第二信號及該第三信號相同時,該選擇單元選擇性地關閉該第一放大器及該第二放大器;以及(A4)該第三放大器分別輸出驅動信號至一第一輸出墊、一第二輸出墊以及一第三輸出墊。
上述圖3及圖4之實施例,其電路配置及作動方式已於前述裝置實施例中詳細說明,在此不另行贅述。
相較於先前技術,本發明之「顯示面板驅動裝置及其驅動方法」利用驅動IC共用放大器輸出的概念,藉由判斷放大器輸入/輸出是否相同進而共用一個放大器來輸出,來達到降低驅動IC耗電量的功效。
藉由以上具體實施例之詳述,係希望能更加清楚描述本發明之特徵與精神,而並非以上述所揭露的較佳具體實施例來對本發明之範疇加以限制,任何熟知此技藝者,在不脫離本發明的精神和範圍內,當可做各種更動與潤飾。因此,本發明的保護範圍當視後附的申請專利範圍所界定者為準。
Claims (13)
- 一種顯示面板驅動裝置,用以驅動一顯示面板,該顯示面板驅動裝置包含:一驅動單元,包含:一第一通道,包含一第一放大器;以及一第二通道,包含一第二放大器;一數位電路單元,耦接至該驅動單元,用以分別輸出一第一信號及一第二信號至該第一通道及該第二通道;以及一選擇單元,耦接至該驅動單元,當該第一信號與該第二信號相同時,該選擇單元選擇性地關閉該第一放大器或該第二放大器。
- 如請求項1所述之顯示面板驅動裝置,更包含一第一輸出墊(Pad)及一第二輸出墊,係耦接至該選擇單元。
- 如請求項2所述之顯示面板驅動裝置,其中當該選擇單元關閉該第一放大器時,該驅動單元係由該第二放大器分別輸出驅動信號至該第一輸出墊及該第二輸出墊。
- 如請求項1所述之顯示面板驅動裝置,其中該第一通道更包含一第一數位類比轉換器、一第一位準移位器或一第一閂鎖電路。
- 如請求項1所述之顯示面板驅動裝置,其中該第二通道更包含一第二數位類比轉換器、一第二位準移位器或一第二閂鎖電路。
- 如請求項1所述之顯示面板驅動裝置,該驅動單元進一步包含一第三通道,該第三通道包含一第三放大器,且該數位電路單元輸入一第三信號至該第三通道; 當該第一信號、該第二信號及該第三信號相同時,該選擇單元選擇性地關閉該第一放大器及該第二放大器。
- 如請求項6所述之顯示面板驅動裝置,更包含一第三輸出墊,耦接至該選擇單元。
- 如請求項7所述之顯示面板驅動裝置,其中當該選擇單元關閉該第一放大器及該第二放大器時,該驅動單元係由該第三放大器分別輸出驅動信號至該第一輸出墊、該第二輸出墊及該第三輸出墊。
- 如請求項6所述之顯示面板驅動裝置,其中該第三通道更包含一第三數位類比轉換器、一第三位準移位器或一第三閂鎖電路。
- 一種顯示面板的驅動方法,包含下列步驟:(S1)一數位電路單元分別輸出一第一信號及一第二信號至一第一放大器及一第二放大器;(S2)一選擇單元判斷該第一信號及該第二信號是否相同;(S3)當該第一信號及該第二信號相同時,該選擇單元選擇性地關閉該第一放大器;以及(S4)該第二放大器分別輸出驅動信號至一第一輸出墊及一第二輸出墊。
- 如請求項10所述之方法,該第一輸出墊耦接至該第一放大器,該第二輸出墊耦接至該第二放大器。
- 一種顯示面板的驅動方法,包含下列步驟:(A1)一數位電路單元分別輸出一第一信號、一第二信號以及一第三信號至一第一放大器、一第二放大器及一第三放大器; (A2)一選擇單元判斷該第一信號、該第二信號及該第三信號是否相同;(A3)當該第一信號、該第二信號及該第三信號相同時,該選擇單元選擇性地關閉該第一放大器及該第二放大器;以及(A4)該第三放大器分別輸出驅動信號至一第一輸出墊、一第二輸出墊以及一第三輸出墊。
- 如請求項12所述之方法,該第一輸出墊耦接至該第一放大器,該第二輸出墊耦接至該第二放大器,以及該第三輸出墊耦接至該第三放大器。
