光源210可係任何適合的光源或光源的組合。可使用習知光源,諸如發光二極體(LED)、冷陰極螢光燈(CCFL),及甚至白熾燈泡。在一些實施例中,雖然在圖2中將各光源210描繪為單一物件,但是可使用(例如)LED之組合以提供足夠白的輸入光,但是,取決於應用,可利用任何適合的光譜或光譜組合。光源210可包括適合的注入光學元件或準直光學元件,以輔助耦合光至該結構化之光導中,或有助於成形該結構化光導之光輸入。將光源210設置於該光導

第一反射偏光器240及第二反射偏光器260經組態以允許液晶單元250藉由選擇性地閘控光來操作。取決於液晶單元250中使用之液晶材料的類型(例如,扭轉向列型、超扭轉向列型……等等)以及該液晶單元之電驅動的方式,該等反射偏光器之通過軸應經組態以使對於在一「開通」狀態中(即,在該液晶單元之一像素兩端產生一電壓差的一狀態中)的一像素,來自該光源的光實質上行進穿過該第二反射偏光器、或者其實質上未傳送穿過該第二反射偏光器,而對於在一「關斷」狀態中(即,在該液晶單元之該像素兩端無電壓差的一狀態中)的一像素,以相反的方式處理來自該光源的光。對某些類型的液晶單元,中間態係可能的。在一些實施例中,此可係反射偏光器之通過軸的一平行配置,或該等反射偏光器之該等通過軸的一正交配置。任何適合的驅動電子器件、導電層、或薄膜電晶體(TFT)可包括或併入或包括於液晶單元250。
修改用於一SONY VAIO PCG-572N(可購自Sony Corp.,Tokyo,Japan)筆記型電腦之液晶顯示器,該修改方式係移除經層壓至液晶單元之玻璃之任一側的吸收偏光器之僅一半。在移除該顯示器之一半上的吸收偏光器之後,以3M APF-T35 Reflective Polarizer(可購自3M Company,St.Paul,Minn.)置換該等吸收偏光器至該玻璃。置換該液晶顯示器,並在「開通」(顯示一影像)及「關斷」(未顯示影像)狀態二者下觀察該液晶顯示器。該液晶顯示器之經修改部分作用為一反射背光式顯示器,其在該顯示器關斷時作用為一鏡,並在該顯示器開通時顯示一可檢視影像。相較於該顯示器作為參照的那一半,效能係可接受的,尤其考量到該參照顯示器會進一步需要一氣相塗佈部分鏡以作用為一反射背光式顯示器。

項目1.一種反射背光式顯示器,其包含:一背光;一液晶單元,其包括設置於兩個相對透明基材層之間的一液晶層;一第一反射偏光器;以及一第二反射偏光器;其中該第一反射偏光器及該第二反射偏光器各直接相鄰於該等相對透明基材層之一者。
項目2.如項目1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該第一反射偏光器或該第二反射偏光器之至少一者係一多層反射偏光器。
項目3.如項目1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該第一反射偏光器或該第二反射偏光器之各者係一多層反射偏光器。
項目4.如項目3之反射背光式顯示器,其中該兩個透明基材層係玻璃。
項目5.如項目1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該第一反射偏光器及該第二反射偏光器各直接層壓至該等相對透明基材層之一者。
項目6.如項目1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該背光包括:一光導;一反射器,其設置於該光導上;以及一光源,其經組態以將光注入該光導中。
項目7.如項目1之反射背光式顯示器,其進一步包含一第三反射偏光器,其中該第三反射偏光器設置於該第一反射偏光器或該第二反射偏光器上。
項目8.一種鏡,其包含:一鏡部分;以及一反射背光式顯示器部分,其包含如項目1之反射背光式顯示器;其中該反射背光式顯示器能夠直接顯示影像,而該鏡部分則否。
項目9.一種車輛,其包含如項目8之鏡,該鏡經組態為一後照鏡。
項目10.如項目9之鏡,其中該反射背光式顯示器部分係大於該鏡之一面積的10%但小於該面積的50%。
項目11.如項目1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該反射背光式顯示器不包括吸收偏光器。
項目12.如項目1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該反射背光式顯示器不包括非取決於偏光之部分反射器。

Claims (12)
- 一種反射背光式顯示器,其包含:一背光;一液晶單元,其包括設置於兩個相對透明基材層之間的一液晶層;一第一反射偏光器;以及一第二反射偏光器;其中該第一反射偏光器及該第二反射偏光器各直接相鄰於該等相對透明基材層之一者。
- 如請求項1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該第一反射偏光器或該第二反射偏光器之至少一者係一多層反射偏光器。
- 如請求項1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該第一反射偏光器或該第二反射偏光器之各者係一多層反射偏光器。
- 如請求項3之反射背光式顯示器,其中該兩個透明基材層係玻璃。
- 如請求項1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該第一反射偏光器及該第二反射偏光器各直接層壓至該等相對透明基材層之一者。
- 如請求項1之反射背光式顯示器,其中該背光包括:一光導;一反射器,其設置於該光導上;以及一光源,其經組態以將光注入該光導中。
- 如請求項1之反射背光式顯示器,其進一步包含一第三反射偏光器,其中該第三反射偏光器係設置於該第一反射偏光器或該第二反射偏光器上。
- 一種鏡,其包含:一鏡部分;以及一反射背光式顯示器部分,其包含如請求項1之反射背光式顯示器; 其中該反射背光式顯示器能夠直接顯示影像,而該鏡部分則否。
- 一種車輛,其包含如請求項8之鏡,該鏡經組態為一後照鏡。
- 如請求項9之鏡,其中該反射背光式顯示器部分係大於該鏡之一面積的10%但小於該面積的50%。
