Abstract
有機發光二極體顯示裝置包含複數個有機發光二極體畫素,閘極驅動器,源極驅動器,及電壓控制器。每一有機發光二極體畫素包含電流控制開關及有機發光二極體。該電流控制開關之第一端耦接於第一電壓源。該有機發光二極體之第一端耦接於該電流控制開關之第二端,該有機發光二極體之第二端耦接於第二電壓源。該閘極驅動器用以輸出掃描訊號,以依序開啟該些有機發光二極體畫素。該源極驅動器用以輸出顯示電壓至該些有機發光二極體畫素。該電壓控制器用以根據圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差。
Description
本發明係相關於一種有機發光二極體顯示裝置,尤指一種可減少功率消耗之有機發光二極體顯示裝置。
有機發光二極體顯示裝置係一種利用有機發光二極體畫素發光以顯示畫面的顯示裝置。有機發光二極體的亮度係正比於流經有機發光二極體的電流大小。一般而言,為了控制流經有機發光二極體的電流大小,有機發光二極體畫素會包含電流控制開關,用以根據其閘極端之顯示電壓控制流經有機發光二極體的電流大小,進而控制有機發光二極體的亮度。
然而,電流控制開關會消耗部分功率,且當電流越大時,電流控制開關消耗的功率越多。習知有機發光二極體顯示裝置無法有效率地降低電流控制開關的功率消耗。
本發明之目的在於提供一種可減少功率消耗之有機發光二極體顯示裝置及其驅動方法,以解決先前技術的問題。
本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置包含複數個有機發光二極體畫素,閘極驅動器,源極驅動器,及電壓控制器。每一有機發光二極體
畫素包含電流控制開關及有機發光二極體。該電流控制開關之第一端耦接於第一電壓源。該有機發光二極體之第一端耦接於該電流控制開關之第二端,該有機發光二極體之第二端耦接於第二電壓源。該閘極驅動器用以輸出掃描訊號,以依序開啟該些有機發光二極體畫素。該源極驅動器用以輸出顯示電壓至該些有機發光二極體畫素。該電壓控制器用以根據圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差。
本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置之驅動方法,包含提供一有機發光二極體顯示裝置,該有機發光二極體顯示裝置包含複數個有機發光二極體畫素,每一有機發光二極體畫素包含電流控制開關,及有機發光二極體,該電流控制開關之第一端係耦接於第一電壓源,該有機發光二極體之第一端係耦接於該電流控制開關之第二端,該有機發光二極體之第二端係耦接於第二電壓源;根據圖框之顯示資料輸出掃描訊號,以依序開啟該些有機發光二極體畫素;根據該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差;及根據該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差輸出一顯示電壓至該些有機發光二極體畫素。
藉由本實施例之有機發光二極體顯示裝置及其驅動方法,可動態地根據每一圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值,於相對應之圖框顯示週期中調整第一電壓源及第二電壓源之電壓差,進而減少電流控制開關的功率消耗。因此,本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置可以較省電。

請同時參考第1圖及第2圖。第1圖為本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置的示意圖。第2圖為有機發光二極體畫素的等效電路的示意圖。如圖所示,本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置100包含複數個有機發光二極體畫素P,閘極驅動器110,源極驅動器120,及電壓控制器130。每一有機發光二極體畫素P包含一電流控制開關SW,及一有機發光二極體D。電流控制開關SW之第一端耦接於第一電壓源VDD。有機發光二極體D之第一端係耦接於電流控制開關SW之第二端,有機發光二極體D之第二端係耦接於第二電壓源VSS。閘極驅動器110係用以輸出掃描訊號,以依序開啟有機發光二極體畫素P。源極驅動器120係用以根據顯示資料輸出顯示電壓Vc至有機發光二極體畫素P以控制有機發光二極體畫素P顯示畫面。電壓控制器130係用以根據一圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整第一電壓源VDD及第二電壓源VSS之電壓差。
請參考第3圖,並一併參考第1圖及第2圖。第3圖為有機發光二極體畫素的特性曲線圖。如第3圖所示,曲線A為飽和曲線,曲線A的左邊為線性區域,曲線A的右邊為飽和區域。曲線B為有機發光二極體的電壓曲線,代表有機發光二極體兩端的電壓差VOLED。電流控制開關SW之閘極端和源極端之間的電壓差Vgs係用以決定流經有機發光二極體D的電流I的最大值。當電壓差Vgs被固定且電流控制開關SW兩端之電壓差Vds落於飽和區域時,流經有機發光二極體的電流I只會維持在相對應之最大值I1,I2,I3而不會增加。由於電壓差Vds和有機發光二
極體D兩端之電壓差VOLED之總和約略等於第一電壓源VDD及第二電壓源VSS之電壓差(VDD-VSS),且當電流I固定時有機發光二極體D兩端之電壓差VOLED將維持不變,因此當有機發光二極體畫素P的灰階值小於灰階極限值時,電壓差Vds通常會落於曲線A的右邊。此時若能減少第一電壓源VDD及第二電壓源VSS之電壓差(VDD-VSS),使電壓差Vds落於曲線A上,則可以在維持相同亮度的情況下減少電壓差Vds,亦即減少電流控制開關SW之功率消耗。
舉例來說,在本實施例中有機發光二極體畫素P的灰階極限值為255。當一個圖框中之顯示資料的最大灰階值為255時,電壓差Vgs是固定在Vgs3,此時電壓差Vds的值為V3。由於電壓差Vds是落於曲線A上,因此電壓差Vds無法再減少,否則會影響到有機發光二極體畫素P的亮度。當一個圖框中之顯示資料的最大灰階值為128時,電壓差Vgs是固定在Vgs2,此時電壓差Vds的值為V4。為了降低電壓差Vds,使電壓差Vds落於曲線A上,電壓控制器130可降低第一電壓源VDD之電壓或者升高第二電壓源VSS之電壓,以使第一電壓源VDD及第二電壓源VSS之電壓差(VDD-VSS)減少,進而讓電壓差Vds從V4降至V2,如此可以在維持相同亮度的情況下減少電流控制開關SW之功率消耗。當一個圖框中之顯示資料的最大灰階值為64時,電壓差Vgs是固定在Vgs1,此時電壓差Vds的值為V5。為了降低電壓差Vds,使電壓差Vds落於曲線A上,電壓控制器130可降低第一電壓源VDD之電壓或者升高第二電壓源VSS之電壓,以使第一電壓源VDD及第二電壓源VSS之電壓差(VDD-VSS)減少,進而讓電壓差Vds從V5降至V1,如此可以在維持相同亮度的情況下減少電流控制開關SW之功率消耗。
當圖框中之顯示資料的最大灰階值越小時,電壓差Vds可以
下降的幅度越大,相對地電流控制開關SW減少之功率消耗也會越多。
另外,電流I之大小約略等於第一電壓源VDD和顯示電壓Vc之電壓差(VDD-Vc)的平方,為了避免降低第一電壓源VDD之電壓會影響到電流I,當電壓控制器130降低第一電壓源VDD之電壓時,源極驅動器120也必須根據第一電壓源VDD之電壓降低程度相對應地降低顯示電壓Vc,使第一電壓源VDD和顯示電壓Vc之電壓差(VDD-Vc)維持不變。
在上述實施例中,電流控制開關SW係為P型電晶體,然而在本發明其他實施例中,電流控制開關亦可為N型電晶體。當電流控制開關係P型電晶體時,升高第二電壓源VSS之電壓可得到較佳之效果;而當電流控制開關係N型電晶體時,降低第一電壓源VDD之電壓可得到較佳之效果。
請參考第4圖,第4圖為本發明電壓控制器130的功能方塊示意圖。如第4圖所示,本發明電壓控制器130包含判斷單元132及電壓控制單元134。判斷單元132用以接收每一圖框之顯示資料,並判斷圖框中顯示資料之最大灰階值。電壓控制單元134用以根據判斷單元132判斷出的最大灰階值於相對應的圖框顯示週期中調整第一電壓源VDD及第二電壓源VSS之電壓差(VDD-VSS),例如降低第一電壓源VDD之電壓,或者升高第二電壓源VSS之電壓。電壓控制器130可另包含顯示資料轉換單元136,當電壓控制單元134降低第一電壓源VDD之電壓時,顯示資料轉換單元136可相對應調整顯示資料並傳送至源極驅動器120,使源極驅動器120能以更新之顯示電壓驅動有機發光二極體畫素P,以避免因降低第一電壓源VDD之電壓而影響到電流I。
另外,有機發光二極體顯示裝置100可另包含記憶體140用以儲存一查找表,電壓控制單元134可根據判斷單元132判斷出之最大灰階值及查找表調整第一電壓源VDD及第二電壓源VSS之電壓差(VDD-VSS)。
請參考第5圖,第5圖為本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置之驅動方法之流程圖500。本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置之驅動方法之流程如下列步驟:步驟510:提供一有機發光二極體顯示裝置,該有機發光二極體顯示裝置包含複數個有機發光二極體畫素,每一有機發光二極體畫素包含一電流控制開關,及一有機發光二極體,該電流控制開關之第一端係耦接於一第一電壓源,該有機發光二極體之第一端係耦接於該電流控制開關之第二端,該有機發光二極體之第二端係耦接於一第二電壓源;步驟520:根據一圖框之顯示資料輸出掃描訊號,以依序開啟該些有機發光二極體畫素;步驟530:根據該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差;及步驟540:根據該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差輸出一顯示電壓至該些有機發光二極體畫素。
相較於先前技術,本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置可動態地根據每一圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值,於相對應之圖框顯示週期中調整第一電壓源及第二電壓源之電壓差,進而減少電流控制開關的功率消耗。因此,本發明有機發光二極體顯示裝置可以較省電。

Claims (11)
- 一種有機發光二極體顯示裝置,包含:複數個有機發光二極體畫素,每一有機發光二極體畫素包含:一電流控制開關,其第一端耦接於一第一電壓源;及一有機發光二極體,其第一端耦接於該電流控制開關之第二端,第二端耦接於一第二電壓源;及一閘極驅動器,用以輸出掃描訊號,以依序開啟該些有機發光二極體畫素;一源極驅動器,用以輸出顯示電壓至該些有機發光二極體畫素;及一電壓控制器,用以根據一圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差。
- 如請求項1所述之有機發光二極體顯示裝置,其中該電壓控制器係當該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值小於一灰階極限值時減少該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差。
- 如請求項2所述之有機發光二極體顯示裝置,其中該電壓控制器係當該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值小於該灰階極限值時降低該第一電壓源之電壓。
- 如請求項2所述之有機發光二極體顯示裝置,其中該電壓控制器係當該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值小於該灰階極限值時升高該第二電壓源之電壓。
- 如請求項1所述之有機發光二極體顯示裝置,另包含一記憶體,用以儲存一查找表,其中該電壓控制器係用以根據該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階 值及該查找表調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差。
- 一種有機發光二極體顯示裝置之驅動方法,包含:提供一有機發光二極體顯示裝置,該有機發光二極體顯示裝置包含複數個有機發光二極體畫素,每一有機發光二極體畫素包含一電流控制開關,及一有機發光二極體,該電流控制開關之第一端係耦接於一第一電壓源,該有機發光二極體之第一端係耦接於該電流控制開關之第二端,該有機發光二極體之第二端係耦接於一第二電壓源;根據一圖框之顯示資料輸出掃描訊號,以依序開啟該些有機發光二極體畫素;根據該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差;及根據該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差輸出一顯示電壓至該些有機發光二極體畫素。
- 如請求項6所述之驅動方法,其中根據該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差包含:當該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值小於一灰階極限值時減少該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差。
- 如請求項7所述之驅動方法,其中減少該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差係為降低該第一電壓源之電壓。
- 如請求項8所述之驅動方法,另包含根據該第一電壓源之電壓降低程度,調整該顯示電壓。
- 如請求項7所述之驅動方法,其中減少該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差係為升高該第二電壓源之電壓。
- 如請求項6所述之驅動方法,其中根據該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差,係為根據該圖框之顯示資料的最大灰階值及一查找表調整該第一電壓源及該第二電壓源之電壓差。
