Abstract

Attached to a vehicle wheel (1) by means of adjustable legs (4, 5, 6) in a manner coaxial with the wheel axle (7) is a shaft (3) on which a housing (9) is pivotably mounted with low friction. In the housing (9), a bolt (11) forms a first spindle, which is situated horizontally and in a plane perpendicular to the wheel axle (7). The mirror (17) bears against an inclined stop face (18). The second spindle (12) is set parallel to the wheel axle (7) in order to measure the negative castor. A light beam directed onto the mirror (17) parallel to the vehicle longitudinal axis is laterally reflected by an amount corresponding to the negative castor. In order to measure the camber, the second spindle (12) is set exactly horizontal by means of a water level. The mirror (17) is guided via the stop face (18) and thereby pivoted about the second spindle (12). The deflection of the light beam in the vertical corresponds to the camber of the wheel axle (7). The measurement both of the negative castor and of the camber by means of a light beam projected parallel to the vehicle longitudinal axis requires little lateral space and reduces the outlay on measurement. <IMAGE>
