Аппарат приводитс в действие от струи воды, подаваемой под напором через насадку 1 в камеру 2. Жидкий шлак пз питательной воронки 3 поступает перпендикул рно к струе воды в камеру 2. В расшир гопдейс части 4 происходит повышение давлени за счет ;уменьшени1Я скорости и превращени кинематической энергии в потенциальную. Давление струи в камере 2 превышает гидростатическое давление жидких шлаков.
