Description
A method of producing acetic acid from methyl acetate, which is a by-product in the production of polyvinyl alcohol, is known by hydrolysis in the presence of an acidic catalyst. In this case, as a rule, weak aqueous solutions of acetic acid are obtained, since the process of hydrolysis of methyl acetate is reversible, and in order to shift the equilibrium towards the formation of reaction products, water is taken in a considerable excess.
Указанное обсто тельство осложн ет процесс экстракции уксусной кислоты в виду высоких энергетических затрат и значительных потерь как самой уксусной кислоты, так и растворител (этилацетат и др.).This circumstance complicates the process of acetic acid extraction due to high energy costs and significant losses of both acetic acid and solvent (ethyl acetate, etc.).
The proposed method for producing acetic acid from methyl acetate is as follows:
A mixture consisting of 55-60% methanol, methyl acetate and 10-15% water (the aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate obtained by catalytic alcoholysis is distilled) is subjected to a preliminary rectification, which results in an azeotropic mixture containing 79% methyl acetate and 21% methanol and bottom liquid containing methanol and water. Cubic liquid is returned in the process of obtaining polyvinyl alcohol, and the vapors of the azeotropic mixture, after adding a certain amount of water vapor to it, are passed at 200-250 ° through activated alumina, formed in the form of worms (this catalyst only allows the hydrolysis of methyl acetate to be carried out excess water vapor). The mixture of acetic acid, methanol, unconverted methyl acetate and water obtained after contacting is subjected to rectification and methanol and methyl acetate are obtained in distillate, and acetic acid with a concentration of at least 70% is obtained in distillate. After that, the distillate is recycled, added to the original distillate, and the acetic acid is concentrated using additional rectification.
Activated alumina lasts for more than one month without loss of activity.

23%.Example 1. A mixture of vapors consisting of 80 g of methyl acetate, 20 g of methanol and 20 g of water at a temperature of 200 ° is passed through activated alumina at a rate of 0.5 l / h kg. After rectification, 15 g of acetic acid are obtained, which corresponds to a conversion of methyl acetate by 23%.
Example 2. In contrast to example 1, the hydrolysis process is carried out at 220, and 26 g of acetic acid are obtained, which corresponds to about 40% conversion of methyl acetate.
