Abstract

Equipment for analyses of phosphate in soil samples. At occasions it is desirable to measure the content of phosphate in the soil already in the field. This desire has been satisfied by preparing a plastic test-strip (1) with ascorbic acid (3) and a porous layer, impregnated with ammonia-heptamolybdate (4). When the soil is leached with 1.2 M HC1 and the test-strip is immersed in the acid, the phosphate from the soil reacts with the molybdate, and a blue colour is developed, which intensity is proportional to the content of phosphate. Then the test-strip can be compared to a colour scale, which has been made with standard series.
