Abstract

An integral multilayer analytical element for the detection and/or assay of specific analytes in liquid samples by radiometric estimation of detectable species, such as dyes, released in proportion to the quantity of analyte present includes a radiation- transmissive detectable species migration-inhibiting layer which prevents the dye or other detectable species from migrating from the reagent layer in which they are formed to other layers where they could not be easily measured. The detectable species migration-inhibiting layer may include a mordant for the dye formed or released in proportion to the amount of analyte present.
