Abstract

A removable propulsion and steering system for a vessel comprises a propeller (not shown) driven by a drive shaft 8 for rotation within a nozzle (not shown) mounted on a steering column 7,10. The column is formed of a lower portion 7 rotatably received in a housing 5 itself releasably received in a housing 6 rigid with the bottom 1 of the vessel and an axially movable upper portion 10 carrying a gearwheel 11 for engagement with pinions 16 of drive motors 17 and adapted to be coupled to the lower portion 7 by bolts 28. The drive shaft is formed of upper and lower portions connected by a splined coupling 9. In use the upper portion 10 and the upper drive shaft are moved axially by bolts 13 to affect engagement/ disengagement from the lower portion and drive shaft. <IMAGE>
