Abstract

The sheet material is coated with strips of heat-activatable adhesive, pref. electroni printed toner strips. These strips, come into contact with each other, and the sheet is then inserted in a machine to join the strips together. The machine has a closure zone with first and second rollers (1,2), a heating zone in which one of the closure rollers is heated, at least one rectangularly formed milled-out area (13) in the surface of one of the rollers, an adjustable pressure component which presses one of the roller so that it locates against the other to be driven by it, and transport means feeding the envelopes into, through, and away from the closure zone. - A monitor (24) is adjustably fitted at a stop and turning position to which the envelopes are fed, monitors the front edge envelope, and the transport rollers (21) are driven synchronously with the closure rollers via a magnetic coupling activated by the monitor and a sensor.
