Abstract

A pontoon section for a multiple section unit, formed from heavy angle beams (11, 12, 15) at the corners of the section with metal plates (24) extending between the inner edges of the beams and welded thereto along the edges of the plates so any damage received by the section is remote from welded joints. Fittings then may be welded to the angle beams which previously were welded to the plates, thus again reducing the stresses in welded joints. <IMAGE>
