Abstract
Coke, more particularly metallurgical and foundry coke, is made from an initial carbonizing blend prepared from one or more initial coals having a prescribed carbonizing period in the coke-oven carbonization process, the mixture is rammed in the ovens in a coke-oven battery and carbonized therein, and the coke cake is pushed out after the carbonizing period (t) has elapsed. Aluminium in granular form is added to the initial carbonizing blend in amounts exceeding 0.3 w.t. %, and the coke cake is pushed out after a carbonizing period at least 10% shorter than the conventional period, but the reduction compared with the conventional period can be up to 30%. <IMAGE>
