Abstract

A pipe fitting comprises a male member 10 and a female element 3, the element 3 having a wide section 4 of a diameter greater than the diameter of the male member 10. A flange 7 is provided on the element 3 substantially parallel to the wide section 4 and spaced radially inwardly thereof. The flange 7 and the wide section 4 together form a socket 8. The male member 10 slides into the socket 8 to form the joint. In the preferred form of the device, a retaining groove 5 is provided on the wide section 4. The groove 5 contains a sealing ring 6 which bears against the outer wall of the male member 10. <IMAGE>
