Abstract
The engine has a combustion chamber formed in the piston or cylinder head thereof, a fuel injector, and a cold-start system comprising an electrically operated glow pin plug extending into the combustion chamber at least at top- dead-centre of the piston and means for causing the glow pin plug to glow before starting the engine and to be deenergized after cold-starting, the glow pin plug being arranged so that its glow tube is either directly wetted by the fuel spray injected from the periphery of the combustion chamber, or is at least reached by the fuel film spreading on the combustion chamber wall.
