Abstract

In the case of driving a bistable relay which switches an AC circuit, the relay coil (3) is energised by briefly closing a switching element (1). In order to open the relay contact (4) deliberately 20 DEG to 10 DEG electrically before the zero crossing of the AC voltage, and to achieve deliberate closing of the relay contact (4) up to 20 DEG electrically after the zero crossing of the AC voltage, a bias resistor (2) is arranged in a series circuit with the relay coil (3) and the switching element (1). For this purpose, the pull-in current of the relay coil (3) can be matched to the movement sequence of the bistable relay (3). This bias resistor (2) is expediently split into a resistor (2a) and a PTC thermistor (2b). <IMAGE>
