Abstract

644,035. Electromagnetic switches. FKG F. KESSELRING GERATEBAU AKT.- GES. July 4, 1947, Nos. 17767 and 17768. Convention dates, July 5, 1946 and July 13, 1946. [Class 38(v)] An electromagnetic switch of cartridge form has pole pieces 3, 4 arranged at the ends of the insulating tube 9 and a centrally-pivoted armature and contact member 1 adapted to bridge contact members such as 5, 6 or 17<SP>1</SP>, 18 as well as the poles 3, 4. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the member 1 is mounted on a torsion shaft 2 and the cartridge is mounted between magnetic yokes 12, 13, which when magnetized by a coil, (not shown), causes the member 1 to rotate to interrupt a circuit 1a or to make a circuit 1b. Any heat generated in the element 1 is conducted away through the fixed contacts. The tube 9 may be evacuated or filled with a gas under pressure.. In a modification, the member 1 is arranged across the tube and the conductors leading to the fixed contacts are fitted with cooling vanes. Fig. 3 shows a cartridge containing three elements 1<SP>11</SP> arranged in series between the poles 3<SP>11</SP>, 4" which also act as contacts When a magnet impulse is applied to the pole pieces the elements 1" complete a circuit I which includes a holding coil 24. In Fig. 4 a cartridge is arranged between yokes 27, 27<SP>1</SP> and immersed in a resistance liquid which completes a circuit between 27, 27<SP>1</SP> or is short-circuited by the switch in the cartridge according to whether the coil 30 is energized or not. Fig. 5 shows three switch cartridges 35, 36, 37 arranged between yokes 33, 34 magnetized by an A.C. coil 31, a short-circuited coil 32<SP>1</SP> also being provided to prevent the flux ever dropping to zero. Auxiliary yokes 47 also control auxiliary cartridges 45. Each cartridge 35, 36, 37 has a holding coil and the arrangement may be such that rise of current in the coil 32 causes successive actuation of the cartridges to cause successive control of the circuits 1 1 , 1 2 , 1 3 .
