Abstract

1488058 Light guides INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 30 July 1975 [2 Aug 1974] 31908/75 Heading G2J An optical fibre element for an optical cable comprises an optical fibre and at least three filaments all embedded in an elongated member of rubber or plastics material, the filaments being spaced from each other and from the fibre. The filaments are of metal, and are equally angularly spaced about the fibre, which is centrally located. The member may be of a thermoplastics material, and may contain carbon black. A plurality of such elements may be stranded together within a sheath, see Fig. 3 (not shown), or may be helically wound about a sheathed core of stranded metal wire, Fig. 4 (not shown).
