Abstract

1509078 Temperature responsive element K FISCHER 9 May 1975 [10 May 1974] 19544/75 Heading G1D A temperature responsive element comprises a sensor box 16 for sensing the temperature of an electric cooking hot plate, a capillary tube 21 connecting the box 16 to a regulating element 22 which is for varying the power supply to the hot plate, and a support member 30 to which the box 16 is connected by means of a retaining member 27 for limited axial movement relative thereto. A spring 47 biases the sensor box 16 away from the support member 30 which member comprises a locking clip 31 and a spacer 40. The locking clip 31 includes a central portion to which the box 16 is attached and at least two arms 34 which extend'away from the box 16 and have locking elements 35 for fixing the element in the hot plate. The spacer 40 is mounted on or integrally formed with the locking clip 31 and is arranged to effect the limitation of axial movement of the sensor box 16 e.g. by means of upturned arms 42. The sensor box 16 may be attached to the support member by means of a retaining member 27, a forked end of which is secured to the box, the other end being provided with barbs 28 which engage behind the central portion of locking clip 31 prior to the mounting of the element in a hot plate. The capillary tube 21 may communicate with the box 16 via a connection piece 23 providing a guide for the spring 47. The sensor box 16 may include an annular chamber as shown filled with a temperature responsive fluid, and a flange 46 which engages in use a flange portion of a sleeve 13 secured in the hot plate. A lower flange 17 of the sleeve may be serrated to co-operate with projections 36 or elements 35 on the arms 34 of locking clip 31. The element can be formed extensively from pressed and cut sheet metal.
