Abstract

The invention related to a method for impregnating a porous filter material with fluid and a filter manufactured according to the method. According to the principles of the method according to the invention, the filter material is placed in a chamber essentially sealed against the atmosphere, the material is heated to a predetermined temperature, the impregnation solution in the form of a dispersed fluid is sprayed into the chamber, and the pressure in the chamber is raised to a predetermined level, whereby said parameters regarding temperature and pressure are maintained in the chamber for a predetermined interval of time that is chosen to allow the impregnation solution to diffuse completely into and fill the filter material. In this way, a good impregnation of fluid in the filter material is obtained in a very simple manner, and the filtering effect of said filter is also good.

Description

The filter material 1 is introduced for treatment into a chamber 2 which is sealed in a gas-tight manner against the atmosphere surrounding the chamber. The filter material 1 is heated by the action of convection elements arranged in the chamber (not shown in the) clock) or by microwaves acting therein generated by an oscillator unit arranged in a suitable manner to the space. Through one or preferably several inlet pipes and connected to the chamber 3, impregnating liquid 4 is sprayed into the chamber and the pressure in the chamber is raised to a predetermined level. When certain values of temperature and pressure have been reached in the chamber, these are retained for a certain time interval so that the treatment liquid is given the opportunity to diffuse in from different directions and is completely absorbed in the ateriallter material 1.

The choice of parameters regarding pressure, temperature and treatment time in the chamber is primarily determined in dependence. of the viscosity of the selected impregnating liquid, especially the dimensions and density of the filter and thus in relation to the time required for the liquid to completely diffuse into the porous filter mass. It should also be appreciated that for the rate of manufacture, it is preferred that the liquid dispersion sprayed into the chamber have an elevated temperature before it is sprayed into the chamber.

The method as above can be practiced for different filter materials and impregnation liquids, especially for different levels of temperature, pressure and different treatment times. As an example of filter material, materials that are commercially available under the designations “FILTREN rzø, FILTREN TV5, BULPREN S90” from design: RESTICELL INTERNATIONAL have been used. The assembly of the filter material preferably consists of a 3-layer material mounted in a frame or similar construction where the filters are joined at the edges by, for example, gluing and in said frame stiffened by some net-shaped element of some relatively rigid material such as hard plastic material or metal. The impregnation liquids may, for example, consist of vegetable oils such as rapeseed oil, as well as polymers or other known oils. Depending on the application area of the filters and the filtration requirements imposed on the formed filter unit, the use of layers other than the above-mentioned three layers is also conceivable, for example 6-layer materials, etc.

Typical heating temperatures normally range from about 75 ° C to about 155 ° C and the pressure can normally range from about 20 MPa to 45 MPa, while suitable treatment times are about 25 to 90 seconds.

According to an exemplary embodiment, a very good filtering effect has been obtained by an filter mass from said manufacturer which has been treated at 75 ° C and at a pressure of 20 MPa while maintaining these parameters for a period of 25 seconds.
