Abstract

1535309 Heat exchangers R M BROWN 31 Dec 1975 [2 Jan 1975 20 Aug 1975] 53256/75 Heading F4S A combined fireplace hood and space heating unit 20 comprises a housing 26 mounted on the lintel 22 of the fireplace and having an intake vent 70 and a pair of exhaust vents 72, 74; a pair of U-shaped heat exchange ducts 80, 82 integral with the housing 26 and interconnecting the said vents 70, 72 and 70, 74 to form flow passages for air; and a pair of centrifugal fans 110, 112 with a motor 114 for forcing the air through the said passages (see arrows 104, 102). The ducts 80, 82 are preferably rectangular in cross-section. The housing 26 also includes slits (58, Fig. 7) adjacent the longitudinal spaced ends of the housing for allowing a small proportion of air to be drawn into the housing specifically for cooling purposes. A fire screen 66 is also provided.
