Abstract
1,186,539. Wrapping articles. MEAD CORP. 4 Aug., 1967 [15 Aug., 1966], No. 35879/67. Heading B8C. A blank as shown in Fig. 1 is folded around a group of articles, and transverse cushioning tabs 42, 43, 46, 47 are turned up between successive articles C1 C2 by means of tucking studs 59, 60, the tabs being extended by the studs simultaneously with the folding of the lap panel 30 (or 28) in which they are formed. Flat blanks S are each fed from a magazine (50), Fig. 2 (not shown), on to a group of articles at position Gl, each group being moved continuously through the machine by means (not shown), and kept in position by an endless belt 52. The blanks are folded by conventional means about the articles, the first base lap panel 30 being guided by a pair of rails 62, 63 into the control of a plough 64. The second lap panel 28 is similarly ploughed up, and locking tabs 34-37 in the blank subsequently interfitted with openings defined by retaining tabs 38-41,. During the base panel folding, the studs 59, 60, carried by a conveyer 54, turn up the tabs 42, 43, 46, 47 and guide them into position between the articles. The blanks S have finger holes 12, 13, slits 6-8 and 9-11, and cut-outs 20-22 and 25-27 through which the articles protrude in the usual way.
