Abstract

1,021,589. Clamps. DOWN BROS. and MAYER & PHELPS Ltd. Nov. 26, 1964 [Dec. 5, 1963], No. 48090/63. Heading E2B. [Also in Division A5] A clip which may be used as a surgical clamp, a clothes peg or a hair curler comprises a pair of members 1, 1 and a coil spring 4 having at least three superposed coils, one end of one member being secured to one of the outer coils 3, at, or at a point towards the free end thereof, and one end of the other member being secured to the other outer coil 3 of the spring 4 at, or at a point towards the free end thereof, in such position that the members 1, 1 co-operate with one another in the clipping position, at least a portion 6 of at least one of the coils 3 being inclined outwardly from the plane of the or an inner coil to form a lever, the arrangement being such that when the inclined portion is brought towards the adjacent coil, the members 1, 1 are separated against a restoring force arising at least in part from torsion in the inner coil or coils.
