The clamp members are brought together by the operation of an air cylinder 33 and a link 31, the cylinder 33 being co-ordinated with the cylinder 34a and with a counter for the newspapers. The clamping device is mounted on side members 28 carried on the section 17. The stream is thus momentarily interrupted to create a gap therein, when the section 17 is to be moved to its alternative position. The upper clamping members 22 may be stationary. The section 17 may alternatively be stationary and there may be only one outfeed section, in which case the clamping members are operated after the passage of a predetermined number of newspapers.
