Abstract

1,252,481. Oven with heat cleaning. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 2 Jan., 1969 [2 Jan., 1968], No. 309/69. Heading F4W. [Also in Division H5] A microwave oven has a self-cleaning oxidizing unit 70 to burn and dispose of fumes generated within cavity 41 during cooking and during heat cleaning. A metal sheathed resistance heating element surrounding the door opening is used for heat cleaning. Unit 70 comprises a flue 71 communicating between the top of cavity 41 and the space below one of the hob units 33. Inside flue 71 is an electric heating element 72 and a wire screen 73 coated with a catalytic metal, e.g. platinum.
