Abstract

1, 066, 867. Measuring liquid flow electrically. CESKOSLOVENKA AKADEMIE VED. Oct. 1, 1964 [Oct. 19, 1963], No. 39922/64. Heading G1N. In order to determine the velocity of flow of a liquid V, particularly for examining turbulence, a redox compound is dissolved in the liquid, two electrodes M, P are placed in the liquid and connected to a battery E, the current through the liquid being determined by the concentration of redox particles at the measuring electrode M, and its magnitude as shown on a meter I is therefore indicative of the velocity of the liquid. The measuring probe M comprises a thin platinum wire, and the supplementary probe P comprises a thin platinum plate, which is placed in line with the direction of fluid flow to avoid disturbing the flow pattern. Several measuring probes M may be used at different locations with a common supplementary probe P.
