985,350. Guiding industrial trucks. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb. 14, 1963 [Jan. 25, 1963], No. 6091/63. Headings B7D and B7H. An industrial lift truck for use in narrow passages between storage shelves comprises a steerable driven ground wheel 28, supporting wheels 30 for running either on the ground or on rails 26, and flanged guide wheels 38 which are mounted on transversely pivoted arms and spring urged into engagement with the rails 26 to provide lateral guidance. Each supporting wheel 30 includes a flanged rail engaging portion and a rubber tyred portion of larger diameter for engagement with the ground when no rails are provided. Both the steerable driving wheel 28 and a further driving wheel or supporting bogie 52 steerable therewith or freely pivoted are locked in the straight-ahead position whilst the truck runs on the rails 26. The truck includes a load-carrying member 12 and a driver's stand 14, both of which can be elevated on a mast 16. In modified arrangements the flanged guide wheels 38 may be replaced by guide rollers arranged on the truck sides for engagement with guide rails on the shelf sides, or by rollers engaging either side of a single guide rail.
