Insulating material is made by sandwiching a layer of mineral wool 1 between layers 2, 3 of curable material, compressing the assembly in a direction parallel to the planes of the layers, and preferably between parallel plates, so as to corrugate the layers to produce internallydirected ribs 5, 6 in the outer layers, and finally curing the material of the outer layers. The latter may be foamed polyurethane or other plastics; polyester or other plastics which may be reinforced, e.g. with glass fibre; or asbestos cement. Preferably the mineral wool fibres are initially arranged unidirectionally, parallel to the outer layers, in which case, after corrugation, they are mostly arranged perpendicularly to the outer surfaces of the finished product.
