Abstract

1367759 Coated products E G SMITH and B W M SMART 8 Nov 1971 [6 Aug 1970] 38012/70 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and El] Wall or roof panels comprise a layer 21 of glass-fibre reinforced polyester resin (GRP) directly or indirectly bonded to a layer 22 of glass fibre reinforced gypsum (G.R.G.). In the cavity wall unit shown a further layer of GRG 26, an aluminium foil and a layer of expanded polystyrene are also included. In alternative embodiments a curved panel comprises an outer layer of GRP directly bonded to a layer of GRG, with an inner layer of expanded plastics, or the expanded plastics may be omitted or included between the layers of GRG and GRP. The outer face of the panel may be shaped as a shallow pyramid or as a plurality of faces at a shallow angle to one another whereby the visible effects of thermal expansion are reduced. Heating means may be arranged within the inner wall of the cavity wall unit. The GRP may have glass fibres projecting from one face to key the GRG which is applied wet thereto, or a bonding agent such as polyvinyl alcohol may be used, or both the GRG and GRP layers may be preformed and bonded together by foam plastics coil therebetween.
