Abstract
The panel consists of a core placed between surface layers, the core consisting of alternate strips of plane and corrugated plastic material reinforced with fibres, the crests of the corrugations being in contact with the adjacent plane strips so as to delimit cells whose edges are formed by the parallel surface layers of the panel, which are themselves formed from fibre reinforced plastic material adhesively bonded to the core. The panels are very rigid but light in weight since less material is used to form cells larger than those previously used in honeycomb panels. The distance between the plane sheets and the crests of the corrugations may vary between 3.048 and 10.16cm., the crests being pref. in circular arc form of radius equal to 25-35% of the cell height, and being joined by inclined planes at 60 degrees-90 degrees C. The thickness of the core sheets is pref. 0.0635-0.0889 cm. and that of the surface sheets 1/20 to 1/40 of the cell height. The assembly may be of glass fibre reinforced polyester resin.
