Abstract
1,011,962. Electric analogue calculating. NORTHERN ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 9, 1964 [May 14, 1963], No. 14677/64. Heading G4G. [Also in Division H4] An electric control circuit, e.g. for controlling the switching of amplifier channels in a twoway communication system, comprises two paths fed with respective first and second signal inputs and whose gains are controlled by the respective second and first signal inputs so that the output of the first path is proportional to the ratio of the first and second input signals and the output of the second path is proportional to the ratio of the second and first signal inputs. The control path outputs may control a bi-stable circuit whose output operates switches in the amplifier paths of a loud-speaking telephone. Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the control circuit in which the two channels 10a and 10b each include a potential divider consisting of resistor 14a (or 14b) and diode 23a (or 23b). The impedance of the diode and therefore the gain or loss in the channel is controlled by the current flowing through the diode, which current is derived from the other channel input via the amplifier 18b (or 18a) and the rectifying circuit and filter 20b, 21b and 22b (or 20a, 21a and 22a), so that the output signal of the channel is proportional to the ratio of the signal in the one channel and the signal in the other channel.
