As shown in Figs. 2-4, according to the general concept of the present invention, there is provided a connection terminal 100 for connecting a cable 20 with a wiring terminal 400 of an electronic device (not shown), so as to provide a large current signal, such as a power supply signal, to the electronic device via the cable 20. The connection terminal 100 comprises a base portion 1 made of a single metal sheet 10 15 20 25 30 35 P174191.SE.01 such as copper, a pair of extending arms 2 and a holding portion 3 formed as a substantial cylinder. The base portion 1 comprises a first side 11 and a second side 12 opposite to each other. The pair of extending arms 2 extends from the first side of the base portion 1, so as to clamp the wire terminal 400 (see Figs. 7 and 8) of the electronic device. The holding portion 3 formed as a substantial cylinder extends from the second side of the base portion 1 and has a variable diameter so as to mechanically fix and electrically connect the cable 20 having different diameters (see Figs. 7 and 8). ln a further embodiment of the connection terminal 100 of the present invention, the holding portion 3 is provided with a slot 31 extending in an axial direction. ln this way, the diameter of the holding portion 3 of cylinder shape is changed by the shrink and expansion of the slot, so as to apply to cable 20 having different diameters.
The connection terminal 100 of an embodiment of the present invention also comprises a sleeve 4, which is shrinkable radially and mounted on the holding portion 3. The sleeve 4 is made of rubber material, for example. When the cable 20 is connected to the holding portion 3, the outer protection layer of the cable is firstly peeled off so as to expose the conductor portion of the cable 20; then the sleeve 4 is sleeved on the cable 20; the conductor portion of the cable 20 is inserted into the holding portion 3; then, the shrinkable sleeve 4 is mounted on the holding portion 3, so as to press tightly the holding portion 3, fasten the conductor portion of the cable 20 within the holding portion 3 and achieve the electrically connection between the conductor portion and the holding portion. The holding portion 3 is formed by two semi-circle recessed structures, which extend from the first wall and the second wall at the second side 12 of the base portion 1, respectively, and are formed by bending.
The slots 31 are formed at the abutment portions of these two semi-circle recessed structures. Further, the inner walls of the recessed structures are provided with a plurality of grooves 32 so as to increase the friction force between the inner wall of the holding portion 3 and the conductor portion.
According to a further exemplary embodiment of the connection terminal 100 of the present invention, the base portion 1 formed by bending the metal sheet has a cross section of substantially ”U” or ”|'|" or ”Fl” shape or substantially rectangle shape, and comprises a first wall 13, a second wall opposite to the first wall, and a third wall connected between the first wall and the second wall. The pair of extending arms 2 extends from the first wall and the second wall at the first side 11 of the base portion 1, and, after being bended facing one another, forms a space 21 therebetween, into 10 15 20 25 30 35 P174191.SE.01 which the wiring terminal of the electronic device is allowed to be inserted. Each of the extending arms has a plurality of sub-extending arms 22 so as to increase flexibility of the extending arms 2. As shown in Fig. 3, a front end of the third wall 14 is provided with a step portion 142.
Further, the third wall 14 is provided with a spring sheet 141 projecting outwards.
Free ends 23 of a pair of extending arms 2 inclinedly extend outwards so as to be far away from each other.
According to an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, there is provided with an electrical connector 300 for connecting the cable 20 with the wiring terminal 400 of the electronic device, comprising: at least one connection terminal 100 described in above embodiments; and a casing 5 made of insulated material such as plastic, in which the connection terminal 100 is mounted. ln the electrical connector 300 of an embodiment of the present invention, as shown in Fig. 5, the casing 5 comprises: a first mounting portion and a second mounting portion, wherein, the base portions 1 and the holding portions 3 of the connection terminal 100 are mounted within the first mounting portion, and each pair of extending arms 2 is mounted within the second mounting portion. ln addition, the second mounting portion comprises a plurality of pairs of vertical walls 51, and two vertical walls of each pair of vertical walls 51 are separated from each other. Two arms of a pair of first extending arms 2 of the connection terminal 100 are arranged to abut against the respective walls of a pair of vertical walls 51, and the free ends 23 of the pair of extending arms 2 inclinedly extend outwards in opposite directions so as to be far away from each other, such that the pair of extending arms 2 may elastically clamp a wiring terminal 400. lt can be understood that the distance between each pair of vertical walls 51 is set to elastically bias the free ends 23 of each pair of extending arms, such that the wiring terminal 400 with flat-surface structure may be inserted into the space 21 between the pair of extending arms 2, and may be elastically pressed so as to keep reliable electrical connection between the extending arms 2 and the wiring terminal 400.
As shown in Fig. 6, a step portion 52 is provided within the first mounting portion.
When the connection terminal 100 is mounted within the casing 5, a part of the base portion 1(i.e. the step portion 142 at the front end of the third wall 14) is constructed to abut against the step portion 52 so as to prevent the connection terminal 100 from moving in the insertion direction in which the connection terminal 100 is inserted into the casing 5 (a direction from right to left in Fig. 6). ln addition, the spring sheet 141 10 15 20 25 30 35 P174191.SE.O1 is provided on the third wall 14, and the inner wall of the first mounting portion is provided with a recessed portion 56 for partially accommodating the spring sheet 141 so as to prevent the connection terminal 100 from moving in the direction opposite to the insertion direction. ln this way, the connection terminal 100 is retained in the casing 5 by cooperation of the step portion 142 of the connection terminal 100 and the step portion 52 of the casing 52 and cooperation between the spring sheet 141 and the recessed portion 56.
Further, at least one through-hole 53 is formed on the first mounting portion, and each of the through-holes 53 runs from the recessed portion 56 to the outside of the casing 5 in the direction perpendicular to the insertion direction (up-down direction in Fig.6). lf it is required to move the connection terminal 100 out of the casing 5, a tool, such as a screw-driver, may be used to be inserted into the through-hole 53 to press the spring sheet 141 so as to disengage the spring sheet 141 from the recessed portion 56, in turn the connection terminal 100 may be drawn out of the casing 5 from the right side of Fig. 6.
According to a further exemplary embodiment of the present invention, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8, mounting portions 54 projecting outwards, through which the electrical connector 300 is mounted onto a bracket 500, such as a support plate, are formed on the casing 5. For example, the mounting portions 54 are formed with thread holes 541. The electrical connector 300 according to the present embodiment may be mounted onto the bracket 500 by screwing the screws 501 into the respective screw holes 541 in the mounting portions 54 at the other side of the bracket 500 from one side of the bracket 500.
Further, the casing 5 is formed with a guiding key 55. Correspondingly, the bracket 500 is formed with a guiding groove. When the electrical connector 300 is installed, the guiding key 55 should be aligned with the guiding groove, otherwise the electrical connector cannot be inserted into the bracket so as to avoid the incorrect insertion.
By using the connection terminal and the electrical connector according to the embodiments of the present invention, an electrical signal with large current, such as the current signal for transmitting larger power, or other type of driving signal, may be transmitted. The electrical connector may be provided with two pairs of extending arms, which respectively are acted as a positive connection terminal and a negative connection terminal for the electrical signal, so as to provide power supply signal to the electronic device. The electrical connector may be provided with only one pair of extending arms so as to transmit one kind of current signal. ln addition, the electrical 10 15 20 P174191.SE.O1 connector may be provided with multiple pairs of extending arms so as to transmit different kinds of current signals.
According to the connection terminal and the electrical connector described in above various embodiments of the present invention, since the holding portion for connecting with the conductor portion of the cable has a variable diameter, conductor portions with different diameters may be inserted into the holding portion.
Since the holding portion comes into contact with approximately whole outer surface of the conductor portion, the ability of the connection terminal for transmitting large current signal is improved. ln addition, the conductor portion is securely retained within the holding portion with an elastically shrinkable sleeve so as to ensure the reliable electrical connection between the holding portion and the conductor portion. lt should be appreciated by those skilled in this art that the above embodiments are intended to be illustrated. Many modifications may be made to the above embodiments by those skilled in this art, and various structures described in various embodiments may be freely combined with each other without conflicting in configuration or principle, such that on the basis of solving the problem of the present invention, much more connection terminal and electrical connector may be accomplished.
Although several exemplary embodiments have been shown and described, it would be appreciated by those skilled in the art that various changes or modifications may be made in these embodiments without departing from the principles and spirit of the disclosure, the scope of which is defined in the claims and their equivalents.
