Изобретение относится к технике обработки поверхностей непроводящих и плохо проводящих материалов, например конструкционной керамики, кварца, ситала, полупроводниковых материалов, полупроводящего стекла и т.п., и может найти применение в машиностроении, электронной технике и др. Технический результат - расширение функциональных возможностей при одновременом увеличении точности и качества производных разрезов поверхности, изменений ее шероховатости и легирования поверхностного слоя достигается тем, что на обрабатываемую деталь направляют поток оптического излучения. Деталь помещена в рабочую прозрачную для оптического излучения жидкость. Пучок излучения собирают линзой в фокус на границе раздела прозначной жидкости и поверхности обрабатываемой детали, помещенной в сосуд, который может быть соединен через вентили с насосом для прокачки жидкости, которая в свою очередь может быть химически активной в случае полировки или легирования поверхности детали. Пучок излучения нагревает деталь, а от нее и жидкость, доводя ее до кипения и возникновения пузырьков пара в фокусе пучка. Величина пузырька зависит от интенсивности излучения, длительности и интервала облучения. В паузах между импульсами облучения детали пузырьки пара схлопываются, воздействуя на материал.
