36,5%1. Nickel. Concentration range: from more than 30 to 36.5%
It is the main component of iron-based Invar alloys. The nickel content in the specified range provides an abnormally low, including the minimum temperature coefficient of linear expansion (TCLE) in different temperature ranges - from room temperature (20° C) to 300° C and above due to its influence on the electronic structure of the alloy and thereby promoting the occurrence of magnetostrictive phenomena with temperature changes, which in turn leads to a decrease in the thermal expansion of Invar. The lower limit for this element provides a minimum and low LTEC at elevated temperatures and the absence of a martensitic phase in the alloy composition up to minus 65° C. The upper limit for nickel (36.5%) ensures a minimum LTEC up to a temperature of 100° C and also structural stability down to minus 65°C and below.
2. Cobalt. Concentration range 11.0% or less.
Fe-36%Ni.Acts as the third main component. Cobalt helps to expand the invar temperature range by increasing the Curie temperature, that is, it provides invar properties at elevated temperatures (more than 100 ° C), and also further reduces the LTEC at temperatures up to 100 ° C compared to alloys of the Fe-36% Ni type.
3. Iron. Alloy base, main component.
1,5% 4. Carbon. Concentration range from more than 0.5 to 1.5%
This element ensures an increase in the fluidity of the alloy by reducing the surface tension of the melt, expanding its crystallization temperature range and lowering the liquidus temperature. In addition, carbon helps suppress the formation of the martensitic phase when the nickel content is less than 32.6% and cools the alloy to minus 65° C, improves machinability and provides sufficiently high crack resistance. The harmful effect of carbon on the thermal expansion of the Invar alloy is minimized through special graphitizing heat treatment.
5. As inevitable impurities, the alloy may contain oxygen, sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen, silicon, manganese, hydrogen, i.e. contains inevitable technological and harmful impurities. At the same time, their quantity is controlled to achieve the minimum possible quantitative value in order to exclude a negative impact on the properties of the proposed alloy. Oxygen reduces the casting properties of Invar alloys, since oxide non-metallic inclusions can become sources of crack formation during crystallization, during subsequent cooling or operation of castings. Sulfur with alloy components forms sulfides, which, being stress concentrators, reduce mechanical properties and contribute to the initiation of cracks. The harmful effects of sulfur are eliminated by binding it into refractory rare-earth metal sulfides. The sulfur content in the alloy is controlled - no more than 0.02 wt.%. Phosphorus tends to accumulate at grain boundaries. In this regard, it has a significant impact on the mechanical properties of the alloy. The maximum phosphorus concentration in the alloy is limited to 0.02%. With an increased nitrogen content, the resulting nitrides are released inside the dendrites and can close their channels during crystallization, causing the appearance of microporosity. Therefore, the nitrogen content in the alloy is controlled - no more than 0.01 wt.%. The negative effect of silicon on the structure and properties of Invar alloys is due to the fact that it significantly increases the thermal expansion coefficient [A.I. Zakharov Effect of alloying on the thermal expansion of super-invar alloy / A.I. Zakharov, A.M. Perepelkina, A.N. Shiryaeva // MiTOM. - 1972. - No. 6. pp. 62 - 64], however, in combination with carbon, silicon increases the fluidity of the alloy [Handbook on iron casting, edited by N.G. Girshovich, M.: Mashgiz, 1961, 800 pp.]. Therefore, the silicon content is controlled, and its amount in the final alloy should not exceed 0.5 wt.%. With an increase in manganese content, the TCLE increases in both positive and negative temperature ranges. Therefore, the manganese content in the final alloy is controlled in the range of 0.01 - 0.4 wt.%. The total content of manganese and silicon should not exceed 0.6%. The harmful effects of sulfur, phosphorus, oxides and nitrides are due to the fact that they liquidate at grain boundaries, softening the matrix, and because they greatly increase the thermal expansion coefficient.
0,03-0,15%.6. Rare earth metals. Concentration range: 0.03-0.15%.
– 141с.]. Metals such as cerium, lanthanum, and yttrium can be used as rare earth metals. These elements form strong chemical compounds, mainly with sulfur and nitrogen, which reduces the overall contamination of the melt with these elements and, accordingly, improves the quality of the casting [Ways to improve the quality of steels and alloys / S.L. Chistyakov, Yu.G. Gurevich, S.K. Filatov [and others]; Chelyabinsk: South Ural Book Publishing House, 1974. – 141 p.].
0,003-0,006%.7. Alkaline earth metals. Concentration range 0.003-0.006%.
А. 2006].Compared to the prototype, the content of rare earths (RE) can be reduced to 0.03-0.15%. Instead of RE, the input of alkaline earth elements (ALE) is one component selected from the group of AEL - calcium, strontium, barium. To ensure the purity of the melt in terms of non-metallic inclusions (oxides, sulfides, nitrides), alkaline earth elements selected from the group - calcium, strontium, barium - are additionally introduced into the alloy. Preferably, these alkaline earth elements are introduced into the inventive alloy as part of a complex modifier, which is known from the prior art [Golubtsov V.A. Theory and practice of introducing additives into steel outside the furnace / V.A. Golubtsov Chelyabinsk, 2006].
Barium is practically insoluble in the iron-nickel alloy, but has a low vapor pressure when interacting with liquid metal. The low melting point of barium (725°C) leads to rapid interaction with oxygen and sulfur and effective removal of reaction products. As a result, the contamination of the metal with non-metallic inclusions is reduced, the fluidity of the metal increases, and burns are reduced.
Strontium occupies an intermediate position in solubility in liquid metal between calcium and barium and enhances the interaction of each of these elements. The complete mutual solubility of calcium, barium, and strontium reduces the elasticity of their vapors and increases the efficiency of the interaction of metallic metals with liquid metal.
Calcium is slightly soluble in iron, slightly soluble in nickel, actively interacts with oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, hydrogen, cleans grain boundaries from carbonitrides and sulfides, prevents metal embrittlement, and promotes the formation of easily removable non-metallic inclusions. Calcium vapor has high elasticity, which, in the absence of barium, significantly reduces its absorption by the alloy.
При формировании сплава соотношение основных элементов (никеля и кобальта) подбирают в зависимости от требуемого уровня тепловых свойств (таблица 1).When forming an alloy, the ratio of the main elements (nickel and cobalt) is selected depending on the required level of thermal properties (Table 1).
The technical result of the invention is an increase in the fluidity of the melt, achieved by alloying the alloy with carbon and the content of alkaline earth metals (calcium, barium and strontium) in the modifier composition. As a result of protecting the surface of the molten metal with vapors of these elements from contact with the atmosphere, the surface tension decreases, which leads to an additional increase in its fluidity. This is due to the fact that surface tension contributes to a change in the dynamic viscosity of the melt, which mainly determines the casting properties of the alloy.

An example of achieving a technical result.
(2).Table 2 presents three alloy options according to the stated solution (1), (2) and (3), and two alloy options according to the prototype solution P(1) and P(2).
As can be seen from Table 2 in the stated solution: the amount of rare earth metals used at the lower permissible limit is reduced by 57% compared to the prototype solution; the amount of rare earth metals used at the upper permissible limit is reduced by 17% compared to the prototype solution. In this case, alloying the alloy with carbon makes it possible to exclude molybdenum and niobium from the alloy composition. In this way, the stated technical result is achieved. In addition, due to the use of carbon and alkaline earth metals as part of a complex modifier, the fluidity of alloys increases by an average of 80-90% with constant thermal expansion values.
