Przedmiotem zgłoszenia jest sposób otrzymywania γ-butyrolaktonu, będącego cyklicznym estrem kwasu 4-hydroksymasłowego, przedstawionego wzorem 1, określanego skrótowo GBL, z 1,4-butanodiolu, przedstawionego wzorem 2, znajdującego zastosowanie w przemyśle chemicznym i petrochemicznym, czy też farmaceutycznym.
