Abstract

The lock is used for a hinged manhole cover (2) which is located in a surrounding frame (1) set in a road. The lock consists of an angled lever (5) which is pivoted to the cover and has one arm (7) which engages with a projection (38) on the frame, while the other arm (8) forms a handle for release of the lock and lifting of the cover. The angle of the lever has a pivot which receives a clip-on plastic component (12) which is inserted into and retained by a recess in the cover. The plastic component is basically U-shaped, with its inner surface receiving the pivot and one of its branches (14) clipping into the recess (17).
