Description

CIRCULAR LOOM
The present invention relates to a circular loom and has particular reference to a loom for the production of a tubular fabric web, for example a sacking fabric, in which successive spaced apart : transverse bands formed by weft thread thickenings are : present so as to provide positions for subsequent ’ cutting of the weh. ’ Looms of the kind specified for producing, for example, sacks, have the basic disadvantage that it is difficult bd "alwys ent the web precisely at the bands so as td Abtain suitable proportions of the hands for both the sack edges and the sack hattoms. Hitherto, therefore, a cutting machine has to; lh use an »E particular cutting place selected and m foredy 3
Xu operative in a way which cannot meet prede@-daftienan for rational manufacture, . B < 7 © zx»
According to the present invendion thare 34 provided a circular loom for production of a tubular fabric web, the loom being provided with control means operable to so control the sequence of weft thread insertion as to effect periodic production in the web of transverse bands formed by weft thread thickenings and disposed at predetermined spacings longitudinally of the . 25 web, and being further provided with a marking device . which is disposed in a zone of flattening of the web and which is operable synchronously with the control means to apply to the web register marks disposed . longitudinally thereof at spacings corresponding to the hand spacings.
Preferably, the marking device comprises at least ; 1 : BAD ORIGINAL i ; Loo.
one printing mechanism for printing the marks along at least one of the fold edges of the flattened web.
Expediently, the marks are coloured and/or electro-magnetically readable,
In the case of a fabric web produced by a loon emhodying the present invention, the web may he ahle to be cut precisely and completely automatically on a : conventional cutting machine, provided it is equipped with suitable means for scanning or reading the register marks on the web.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, the single Figure of which is a schematic view of part of a loom embodying the invention.
Referring now to the drawing, there is shown part } of a circular loom in which a shed is formed hy WArp varns 2 and 3. A weft yarn is inserted into the shed by means of a shuttle 20 which is guided along a horizontal circular path. The weft yarn is inserted in known . manner in the zone of upper and lower guide rings 21 and : 22 of the loom, into the proximation zone of which a : weft yarn positioning ring 23 on the shuttle 20 extends.
The shed of the upper and lower warp yarns 2 and 3 is opened in known manner by healds 24.
A tubular fabric web 1 thus woven from the warp and weft yarns is drawn off upwards and laid flat in the zone of drawing-off rollers 25 (only one of which is - shown) and is then conveyed onwards, in the direction indicated by arrow 26, in the flattened form for further processing. For this purpose, the flattened fabric web
———— —— — —_— 26369 1 is fed to a cutting machine (not shown},
For the production of transverse bands 9, which } are formed from weft yarn thickenings and which follow one another periodically at a given distance, inorder to form reinforced edges in subsequent finished products, the loom is provided with an appropriate control device for controlling the sequence of weft yarn introduction. In the illustrated embodiment the control device is merely indicated by a camshaft. 10 In order} «to ' then; enable the weh to be cut precisely , in relation ih the bands 8, the web is provided pith’ 5 condabls oN cannable register marking in the form of individual spaced apart marks 15 corresponding in their spacing with the longitudinal spacings of the bands, whereby the web can be advanced in accordance with the register marks. In other words, ’ the successive distances 11 between the bands 9 and the individual marks 15 are to he Kept constant. * i For this purpose a suitable marking device 12, disposed on the loom in a manner which is not shown in detail, is arranged to be actuated by the control device 10 as indicated by a chain-dotted line 16. The marking device 12 can comprise one or two printing mechanisms (not shown) which print the marks 156 along one fold edge of the web or along bath of its fold edges. The marking device 12 is arranged at the location of the roller 25, thus in the zone where the tubular fabric web is laid flat, ;
Of course, the form of the marking device 12, the rlace at which it is used on the flattened fabric web, and its contrel in relation to the series of bands 9 can be selected according to requirements.
Similarly, the register marks 5 to be applied can be of any desired kind. For instance, they can be coloured marks and/or electromagnetically readable printed marks. In that case, of course, the cutting : machine must be equipped with suitable means for scanning or reading the marks on the web.
These steps therefore enable a fabric weh with weft yarn bands following one another periodically at a given spacing to be cut accurately and fully automatically. CL
