Abstract

335,157. K÷r÷sy, P. von. April 16, 1929. Paper bags and the like, making.-In a continuous process for filling pocket-shaped textile fabrics with granular, &c. material, a, tubular double fabric with interposed flat-woven parts is woven on a. ribbon loom and the weaving is interrupted periodically to permit a filling device to insert in the pocket a quantity of material which has previously been measured out automatically. The pocket is then closed, by weaving a flat portion, and removed from the strip by severance across that portion. The filled packet may be provided with a label attached thereto by a thread taken from the fabric itself. Warp threads 1 from a warp beam 210, Fig. 2, pass around weighted tensioning pulleys 211 and guide pulleys 212 to the eyes of healds 52 slidable in horizontal guides for forming the shed, the motion of the healds being effected by levers 66 connected to the healds by cords 67 and to treadles 63 associated with cams on a shaft 48 by pull members 65. Weighted cords 68 are secured to the opposite ends of the healds. Balanced swords 46 pivoted at 50 to the machine frame 45 constitute the weaving frame and carry a batten 47 along which the shuttle is reciprocated by a reciprocating rack with rotates pinions engaging a rack on the shuttle. Rods 49 connect the weaving frame 46 to cranks on the shaft 48 so that after the shuttle has made a pick, the frame is lowered to allow the reed, which is carried by the batten 47, to beat up the weft thread in known manner. At each downward movement of the weaving frame 46, a striker 104, Fig. 30, thereon depresses a knob 105 associated with a ratchet and pawl mechanism 107, 106 which, through a belt 108, actuates a conveyer 4 provided with needles adapted to engage with flat side portions of the fabric to draw it down as the weaving is effected. The loom produces a tubular fabric 3 with flat-woven cross strips 110 and continuous flat portions at the sides. When a predetermined number of weft threads have been counted by a weft counter, a releasing device stops the weaving operation to allow the unfinished packet to be opened and filled. After a measured quantity of material has been delivered into the packet, the opener 10 is withdrawn and the weaving of the flat woven portion 110 closes it; the filled and closed packet is then severed from the remaining material by a reciprocating knife 13 operating between the sets of needles on the conveyer 4 and falls on to a conveyer 70, Fig. 2. A label may be woven into the fabric during the weaving of the flat portion. A label 6, Fig. 13, removed from a container 36, Fig. 30, by a reciprocating slide 39 is secured in a holder 26 by a pair of leaf springs. The holder 26 is pivoted in an oscillating forked member 24 and a pinion rigid with the holder engages a rack to rotate the holder about its axis as the fork 24 is rocked. In operation, a hook 18 is thrust forward through a perforation 17 in the label and seizes a weft thread drawing it back as a loop through the perforation. A U-shaped member 20 secured to a spring pressed rod 21 then rises and as it rises, rotates to cause the upstanding arms to enter and open out the loop of thread 5, Fig. 13. The fork 24 now moves away from the hook 18, the holder with the label in it is turned over in a clockwise direction and grippers 23 advance and seize the label drawing it downwards through the loop. The hook 18 and U-shaped member 20 release the thread, leaving the label secured to the fabric by a knot 43, Fig. 17.
