Abstract

A process for the preparation of a liquid colostrum product, suitable for inclusion in dairy products, is claimed comprising subjecting the colostrum to flow-through centrifugation to substantially reduce the microbial content thereof, wherein the centrifugation is performed by controlling throughput and thereby residence time of the colostrum during centrifugation. The colostrum used in the above process is obtained from a mammal hyperimmunized against a pathogen such as Cryptosporidium enteridies, Cryptosporidium parvum, Toxoplasma gondii, Clostridium species, Giardia species, Salmonella species, Helicobacter pylori, Cholera species, Rotavirus, Astrovirus, Adenovirus, Mycobacterium species, Toro virus, HIV, Shigella species, Candida species, Campylobacter jejuni or Campylobacter coli.
