Abstract

Fremgangsmåte for behandling av avløpsvann inneholdende kjemisk redu- serbare oppløste organiske og uorganiske forurensninger og suspendert mate- riale i partikkelform eller kolloid form. Prosessen omfatter at vannet bringes i kon- takt med metallisk jern eller jern(ll)-ioner (Fe2+) eller blandinger derav, i nærvær av aktivatormetaller, så som Cu, Pd, Pt, Au, Ag og Ni, eller oksyder, sulfider og andre uløselige forbindelser av disse metaller, og som katalyserer redoksreduk- sjonene gjennomført ved hjelp av jern- eller jern(ll)-reagensene. Produksjonen av jern(lll)-ioner (Fe3*) som et endelig jern-oksydasjonsprodukt muliggjør den sam- tidige koagulering og utfelling av suspenderte kolloide og partikkelformige faststof- fer fra den vandige fase. l tillegg til hovedreduksjons-reaksjonsskjemaet yter sy- stemet en rekke sekundære reaksjoner som involverer jem(ll)- og jem(lll)-ioner tilveiebrakt in-situ, og som muliggjør den samtidige fjerning av spesifikke målforu- rensninger, så som fosfat og hydrogensulfid. Nettoeffekten av en behandling i henhold til foreliggende oppfinnelse er nedgangen i en rekke forskjellige karbon- holdige forurensninger, nitrogenforurensninger og andre målforurensninger til stede i en avløpsvanns-strøm i oppløst form, i kolloid form eller i partikkelform, og den kjemiske omdannelse, vanligvis referert til som "mykning", av forurensninger som ikke er lett bionedbrytbare ved et generelt komplekst sett av reaksjoner og fysikalske prosesser.
