Abstract
Transmission - PIT), der senderen i de innledende stadiene av overføringen bruker en Regionsbasert kodemetode (Region Based Coding - RBC) (905) for å forsyne mottakeren med et bilde som har god visuell kvalitet med et høyt kompresjonsforhold, hvilket det er kjent at RBC er i stand til å yte. På et senere stadium i sendingen, når den visuelle kvaliteten til RBC-bildet ikke lenger er overlegen sammenlignet med andre komprimeringsteknikker som for eksempel JPEG, vil PIT- svitsjene (903) bruke en kontinuerlig tone-kompressor (907) til den videre overføringen, uten å miste informasjonen som fantes i RBC-bildet som allerede er blitt overført. Videre blir det brukt en hybrid RBC-DTC (Discrete Cosine Transform - Diskret cosinustransform) for ytterligere forbedring av ytelsen ved overføringsmetoden, der bildet som er segmentert av RBC- algoritmen blir inndelt i rektangulære blokker, og der de blokkene som er fullstendig innenfor et område i det segmenterte bildet blir overført ved bruk av forhåndsdefinerte basefunksjoner, slik som DCT- basefunksjoner. Videre blir en teknikk for videokoding ved bruk av en lignende metode også patentsøkt.
