Abstract

Colored blend comprising a dye and an ultraviolet radiation transporter. In the presence of the ultraviolet radiation transporter, the dye is liable to change when the transporter is exposed to ultraviolet radiation. The ultraviolet radiation transporter is suitable for absorbing ultraviolet radiation and interacting with the dye under the effect of irreversible change of the dye. By way of example, the colored mixture may be incorporated into a toner suitable for use in an electrophotographic process. The toner includes the dye, the ultraviolet radiation transporter and a carrier. The carrier may be a polymer and the toner may contain a charge carrier. The ultraviolet radiation will usually have wavelengths of approx. 100 to 375 nanometers. Particularly suitable ultraviolet radiation is incoherent, pulsed ultraviolet radiation produced by an excimer lamp with dielectric barrier discharge. In another embodiment, the colored composition comprising a dye and an ultraviolet radiation transporter may also contain a molecular containment agent having a chemical structure defining at least one cavity. Each of the dye and the ultraviolet radiation transporter is associated with the molecular containment agent. In some embodiments, the dye is at least partially enclosed in a cavity in the molecular containment agent, and the ultraviolet radiation transporter is associated with the molecular containment agent outside the cavity. In other embodiments, the ultraviolet radiation transporter is covalently coupled to the molecular containment agent.
