Abstract

En hydrofoll-farkost er utformet med minst et skrog, minst en bærearm som strekker seg fra skroget og inn l vannet og er tilknyttet skroget, minst en vinge tilknyttet hver bærearm, og fortrinnsvis minst et støt- stag pr. bærearm svingbart tilknyttet skroget og bærearmen, slik at støtstagene muliggjør at bærearmen og vingen kan bevege seg i samsvar med oppadrettede og nedadrettede endringer i vannhastigheten rundt vingen, slik at derved hydrofoil-farkosten kan opprettholde tilnærmet konstant løft. Disse prinsipper kan også benyttes for såkalte WIG-luftfartøy, dvs. luftfartøy som er beregnet til å fly like over vannflaten for derved å ta fordel av de fordelaktige aerodynamiske virkninger som man oppnår l nærheten av vannflaten.
