Abstract

A method and a device for measuring the dissolved CO2? content of sea water, wherein pH is measured by colorimetry on a solution with a CO2? concentration matching that of sea water. The optical absorbance of the solution is measured at a wavelength ($g(l)M) which is characteristic of a peak absorption value of the basic form of the colouring agent; a complementary measurement is performed at a wavelength ($g(l)B) at which the colouring agent is not absorbent; and a complementary absorbance measurement is performed at a wavelength ($g(l)I) near the isobestic point of the colouring agent. The device comprises a measurement cell (3) containing the coloured indicator solution and means (26, 27a, 27b, 27c) for successively filtering the optical beam as it leaves the cell (3) at the various wavelengths required to perform said measurements.
