Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the use of a polyamide foil as a barrier in a building.
It has hitherto been known, and also very widespread, to take measures in buildings that reduce the diffusion of water vapor in order to protect the individual building parts, particularly against moisture damage caused by dew attack.
For example, according to handbook 38 "Trehus" published by Norges byggforskningsinstitutt, Oslo, 1987, page 41, it is known to use polyethylene foil as a so-called building plastic and such foil was then almost exclusively used as a vapor barrier in wooden houses. Such a vapor barrier is mounted on the inside of the insulation and has the main task of preventing warm indoor air from diffusing and flowing out into the construction through leaks. Because of this function, this foil can also be called an air barrier.
However, problems also arise due to air currents that can bring a very large proportion of moisture into an unprotected building part, which can even be greater than the amount of moisture that penetrates due to water vapor diffusion.
Another problem which has not or only insufficiently been taken into account with hitherto known embodiments is the penetration of harmful substances which in particular penetrate into rooms in the form of gas and which can lead to health damage. Such harmful substances can e.g. are contained in the used wood preservatives or other coating substances, or may also be monomers from insulation boards in plastic material, which can diffuse into unprotected rooms. Likewise, organic solvents can diffuse from adjacent work spaces into unprotected living spaces. This is also the case with facade treatment with water-repellent agents and fasteners. In addition, harmful substances (e.g. radon) can enter rooms from the underground by convection or diffusion.-
With this starting point, it is an object of the invention to provide an application of a polyamide foil as a barrier in a building, which under different conditions is able to ensure protection of the interior of a room against the negative impact of air convection and against the emission of harmful substances which possibly performing.
According to the invention, this is achieved by using a polyamide foil as a barrier in a building, which is arranged on the side of a wall, roof or floor facing the interior of the building, to protect the interior of the building, or a room in the building, against penetration into it of harmful substances from outside the barrier.
According to the invention, this use of a polyamide foil is particularly advantageous when the harmful substance is contained in or penetrates the relevant wall, ceiling or floor by convection or diffusion from the opposite side of the barrier in relation to the interior of the building or said room.
With the invention, air convection in building parts and the emission of harmful substances from building parts, from neighboring rooms, from soil or groundwater into rooms in buildings can be prevented, and the invention is just as applicable in new buildings as it is for renovating old buildings and during remodeling measures to protect room against solvents emitted from recently treated building parts. Thereby, a beneficial effect on well-being can be achieved in such protected rooms.
In one embodiment, the polyamide foil used according to the invention can be reinforced with a carrier material and one side of the polyamide foil can optionally be at least partially coated with a binding agent. In addition, the polyamide foil can have a ribbon-like design. The polyamide foil can have a thickness of between 10 and 500 µm, preferably 50 µm.
As a material for a barrier that exhibits the desired properties, e.g. a polyamide 6, a. polyamide 4 or a polyamide 3 or 12, as well as mixed polyamides, such as in particular those known from K. Biederbick: "Kunstoffe - kun und bundig", Vogel-Verlag, Wurzburg, are used. Such polyamides are used in the form of foils which inherently exhibit the required properties with regard to water vapor diffusion resistance, protection against air convection and penetration of harmful substances. In addition, they have the strength required for use in construction work, so that they can be used without further tenders.
However, the polyamides can also be placed on suitable carrier materials. The carrier materials then preferably exhibit a lower resistance to water vapor diffusion and the required properties of the barrier according to the invention are then mainly effected by layer coating. As material in the carrier or carriers, it can e.g. foils made from synthetic fiber spun webs or building boards are used for internal construction. The barrier material for the foil can then be taken up on one side of the carrier material or in special cases also between two layers of carrier material in a sandwich-like manner. In the latter case, the layer coating material is effectively protected on both sides against mechanical attacks and can thereby guarantee the desired properties over a longer period of time. It is also possible to use several such layer applications that lie on top of each other.
In the case of one-sided coating of the carrier material, the layer can be applied to the side that requires no or only little protection against mechanical impact. The placement of the barrier according to the invention can in this case take place so that the protective carrier material is located on the side facing or away from the room. This will particularly be the case for building panels intended for installation.
It can also be beneficial to supply one side of the polyamide foil at least partially with an adhesive so that attachment to the wall or plates can be done in a simple way without having to use additional fixing agents, which in the event damage the polyamide foil in spots so that on such places there is a possibility of ingress of harmful substances.
A ribbon-shaped design of the polyamide foil is particularly advantageous with regard to use for sealing joint areas, since such a ribbon-shaped polyamide foil can also be coated with adhesive. Such a foil band can be arranged along a joint and seal off such a particularly critical area.
The invention will now be explained in more detail by means of an example. In this example, the barrier according to the invention is formed by a foil alone, which consists of polyamide 6. The foil thickness is preferably in the range from 10 to 500 µm, and the thickness is particularly favorable is 50 µm. Tests with a foil thickness of 50 µm have under measuring conditions according to DIN 52650 in the dry area at an average relative humidity of approx. 30% given a vapor diffusion resistance (sd value) of 4.5 m, and in the humid area at an average relative humidity of approx. 70%, a water vapor diffusion resistance (sd value) of 0.5 m of a diffusion equivalent air layer thickness.
